Had the largest portion. But portion was damn small and feel so unfulfilled.

Definitely taste good and the chilli has a good punch to it.

Dissappointed with the portion though.

Another week, another hokkien mee review โ€” you must be thinking "how high is his blood pressure?" Not high enough until I try ๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—บ, sorry HPB.

The dry variation is not as common simply because it takes a lot of skill. Masterfully fried, each strand of noodle perfectly sealed in the wealth of flavours from the stock, whilst a whisper of smokiness lingered in the background; balanced profile that's rich but not jelak and not overbearingly salty. Noodles were springy, with a dry overall texture but adequately moist from absorbed stock.
-
Mixing in the supporting cast of chili and lime is important as the fragrance and heat added to the richness, whilst that touch of zestiness brought some levity. Maybe not my favourite plate of HKM, but definitely up there.

No doubt itโ€™s a very good plate of hokkien prawn mee, but I kind of expected more from it? Probably we got the final few plates from the wok, it was not as hot as if it was freshly fried. Another thing that threw me off was that it was neither wet or dry kind, but more towards soggy and the noodles are cut into small pieces that you can scoop it up with a spoon. Flavourwise the noodles had the slight wok hei, prawns were fresh and the sambal chilli was fantastic. I would have preferred if it was warmer with a better texture. Nonetheless, this stall is a must-visit when you are here to get a taste of a Singapore dish.

[Best Hokkien Mee]

1. Havelock Rd Blk50 Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee
(ABC Brickworks) ($4)
2. Tiong Bahru Yi Sheng Fried Hokkien Mee (Abc

3. Hainan Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee (Golden Mile
Food Centre) ($4)

Hey, so I finally managed to find time to go out to eat again and really grateful to have had this opportunity to explore Golden Mile Food Centre on an empty stomach (I skipped breakfast) :)

Here are the list of stalls I visited in order of what I bought first:
1) Hainan Hokkien Mee
2) Traditional Teochew Minced Meat Noodle (Forgot the actual stall name but it is NOT the Fei Zhu Minced Meat Noodle; It is located on the left of Avocado Jr. and opposite of Kopi More)
3) Yew Chuan Claypot Rice
4) Burgs
5) Kopi More
6) Avocado Jr.
7) SL II Muffin (Actually went here twice)

If you were thinking, yes I definitely did not eat this all by myself... shared it with 1 other person

Hainan Hokkien Mee
Hokkien Mee ($4)
- Flavourful hokkien mee but felt that my plate was lacking the 'wok hei' flavour
- As with other reviews, this stall sells the dry version of hokkien mee which I personally do not prefer
- Felt that the portion was slightly smaller than average
- Overall, hokkien mee was still loaded with flavour
Price/Taste/Overall: 7/10

Iโ€™m usually more partial towards the wetter style of fried hokkien prawn noodles, but the drier style served at this stall is an exception.

The โ€˜meeโ€™ (a mix of yellow noodles and bee hoon) here may look dry on the outside but once youโ€™ve tasted it, you would realise that the flavours of the prawn stock and pork had already been absorbed wonderfully and together with that wok hei, what you will get is a fried hokkien prawn noodles full of flavour and smokiness that i personally rate as one of the best iโ€™ve tried so far.
