Found this homely and affordable Taiwanese cuisine at the basement of Paya Lebar Square. Their braised pork rice packed with generous braised pork, veggie and half egg.
Not really a big portion for me, but suitable for people who don’t want to eat too much.
Top up $1 and you can get a cup of drink suck as the wintermelon.
At 5 Little Bears, a humble eatery nestled in the basement of Paya Lebar Square, you can get classic Taiwanese dishes such as lu rou fan, beef noodles and all the golden brown crispy snacks such as chicken chop, mushrooms and sweet potato fries. Definitely a hidden gem that serves authentic, non pretentious food.

Lurou Fan ($5) and Pork Cutlet Bento ($7.50). Homely and tasted good, I'll return whenever I'm craving simple Taiwanese fare. Tried their Fried Mushrooms too but didn't like them.
Our usual go to mee sua is out of stock so we tried this today. Nicely seasoned with the right amount of beef, vege and noodle. Will come back again.
The only down side is seats are limited. So be ready to wait.
Had sweet potato fries ($3) & XL Chicken Chop ($4.80). I find the chicken is quite fatty and lack of meat. However, the sweet potato is quite flavourful.
The soup of the Beef Noodles 红烧牛肉面 ($8.50) is surprisingly sweet and herbaceous. The beef, which consists of meat and tendon, is tender. Not bad!
Headed down to 5 Little Bears at Paya Lebar Square (#B1-09) to satisfy my craving for Taiwanese food and the Braised Pork Rice 卤肉饭 ($5) is pretty good! The pork belly is soft and fragrant, and the meat-to-fat ratio is just nice. The classic combination of braised pork belly, salted vegetables and pearl rice check all the boxes for comfort food!
Surprisingly large portion of braised tofu skin at $3. The tofu skin was chewy but unfortunately, the braised sauce didn’t feel infused into it. Overall still a nice appetizer to pair with other mains!
Tender and juicy chicken chop covered with a thin, crispy and well glazed honey batter. Pair it with a little chilli powder for that spicy kick.
At this price point, this is one of the better Taiwanese fried chicken chops around. Must order when you’re there!
Another worthy mention is their Honey Glazed Chicken Chop 🐔, where the exterior crisp was so alluring! The marinated chicken thighs taste mildly sweet of honey 🍯 yet savoury with its sauce. 🤤
Slurp on their hearty bowl of Beef Noodles 🍜, which includes thick slices of beef & tendon 🐄, thick chewy noodles in a light yet flavourful broth that has a slight hint of herbs. 🌟
Oyster mee sua was reminscent of what I had in Taiwan too - but quite vinegary (which I like) 😋 Smooth & silky, the oysters had little fishiness but added a nice briny flavour.
The 卤肉饭 was brilliant - featuring pork belly cubes 🐖 stewed with imported traditional Taiwanese ingredients for more than 8 hours 👏🏻, it is no wonder the meats were so tender & flavourful! 💕
So turned off. I much prefer the more unique Taiwanese mee kia. It's just the common yellow noodles here.
Rlly Small space so it's gonna be awkward finding a seat, but the service will "ensure" there's one before u order.
I can see why this is popular since the texture of the lu Rou is really close to the authentic one(with enough fats). The taste is q mild though so that's unfortunate, could have been very good if it was stronger. The pickled veggies lacked sweetness but had a sharp taste, not sth i could get used to.
Decent braised pork rice the meat was more chunky than the usual minced meat style. The gravy was well balanced. Decent if you are looking to satisfy your craving for taiwanese food
Luroufan was good and tasty, although the meat and rice ratio could be better. Meesua tasted pretty normal, but the portion was good.
Got the lu rou fan, beef noodle, oyster mee sua to share, and added a large chicken chop, crispy shiitake, veg and cucumber salad. Everything was pretty decent (except the weird cucumbers) but beef noodle and the mee sua were the must-orders.
Braised Pork Rice Set which comes with a choice of wintermelon tea, black tea or green tea. Cut into small pieces, the braised pork belly has the right ratio of fat and lean meat.
