Who loves Yo ji mee sua, kee chiew, especially so for Uncle Daniel's bowl of traditional Yo Ji (kidney) Mee Sua! Those who stays around Hillcrest will know of his famous #BakChorMee but I tell you his mee sua is lagi better!

The soup recipe was inherited from his grandmother, heavenly and rich in black sesame oil! Thick slices of quickly blanched pig kidney and with a mix of pork liver. Within the soup, you find bits of lard, shallots and julienned ginger. Add $2.50 for some brandy or cognac to give the soup based and extra oomph!

I think this makes great #confinementfood too! Seriously, I don't mind travelling all the way from SengKang West just to eat it again! I would not go for other kidney mee sua unless I can find another one with a soup base better than Uncle Dan's! Pretty easy to locate, it is side by side #SozoEducation, a tuition centre, which is just right beside, run by Uncle Dan's better half.

A decent bowl of mee sua with loads of fried pork lard. Wouldn’t mind coming back again.

Grilled Chicken Thigh with Black pepper sauce ($9.9)
Decent portion, taste wise so-so but I quite enjoyed the fries 😋

Classic Beef Burger ($9.9) + cheddar ($1)
That homemade juicy beef patty was the main highlight of the day!
But don't bother adding the slice of cheese (oops)

Light but still flavourful broth with 2 thick slabs of chaushu. Great choice if you want some warm comfort food.

I usually order a restaurant’s signature dish to gauge if they are good. I saw a pic of this burger on the wall and started 🤤

I asked for well done, but the beef patty was still juicy. Bacon added another dimension of taste to the burger. I loved the vege tempura. Hubby met a JC friend and after chatting for a good 15 mins, the tempura was still crispy! So delicious with the beef, thou it was a tad oily. I really enjoyed the truffle fries. Freshly fried so they were hot. Lovely truffle aroma. For $17.50 (no GST no service charge), this dish was a steal. Pretty big portion. I couldn’t finish it.

This place looked like a posh kopitiam. No air con but not hot or stuffy. Fur-babies are welcomed, thou the outside tables looked a bit cramped. I’m definitely coming again!

Simple fare that is really tasty. Thick juicy beef patty with cheddar, slice of tomato and slice of lettuce. Smoky BBQ sauce. Cajun fries. $9.90 for this

This is the other signature dish (besides the Iberico ribs). Looks like a steak but taste like a very expertly cooked chargrilled pork chop.

Recommend you bring a partner and try both!

One of the softest, juiciest, tastiest pork rib I ever had!

Truly melt-in-your-mouth. Must try!

From Urara Donburi, occupying a stall space at 73 Hillcrest just behind the chicken rice stall serving up Japanese Donburi such as Oyakodon, Yakiniku Don and Wagyu Foie Gras Don.

Overall it's pretty decently priced at $14.90, where the Donburi comes with a side salad and Miso soup; the former sized pretty generously. Both accompanying items were decent; the Goma Dressing definitely added a toasty and nutty flavour to the salad which was rather appetizing. That being said, the Donburi is decent but can be improved — we did enjoy the tender slices of beef that comes with a pinkish centre with a slight hint of char, though we would wish for the accompanying sauce to be more savoury. The rice could also do with some of the sauce to make it slightly more appetizing to finish, though the poached egg did make the entire bowl a little silkier. The truffle flavours are evident, though it lingers lightly at the back of the tongue rather than being straight-in-your-face — not a bad thing considering that the entire bowl would not be overwhelmed with the flavours of truffle though.

The desserts are designed to be petite in size, so they allow every customer to have a taste of it (and we don't need to share with others!) even after having a full meal! Options include a dark chocolate brownie with ice cream, lime cheesecake, coconut ice cream with gula Melaka and a national day season special of strawberry compote over yogurt and vanilla cream.

My favorite was the dark chocolate brownie (pictured foreground) for its 73% rich intensity chocolate power within a small square of moist brownie. Paired with a classic vanilla ice cream and drizzle of salted caramel, it was a small yet highly satisfying dessert!

It's usually chicken or beef over pork for me but not at 73@hillcrest! Their pork selections such as the BBQ ribs and pork ribeye steak turned out to be my favorites for the night as they were all very tender and well marinated!
The BBQ ribs feature meat that fall off easily from the bone. Just use a fork to pull off the meat and enjoy without any of the usual struggle when having ribs — no more unglam moments!

A new casual joint within the Greenwood enclave of restaurants, 73@Hillcrest takes residence within a small coffeeshop, sandwiched between the classic Donna Carmela restaurant and Baker & Cook.
They serve up no-fuss, comfort food including slabs of steak, racks of ribs and towering burgers. A great place for groups to hang out, plus you can enjoy a beer (or maybe a root beer float) with your food.

2DB BBQ Chicken Wings ($8.90 nett)

Great wings-- flavour & texture on point. I don't eat wings, but when I do... I get my friends to peel the skin off for me.

☀ No air-conditioning; wasn't warm when I dined there though because they had fans & good ventilation 👍
