Trying this 1 star Michelin dim sum further reaffirms my belief that the quality of food in London beats Asia. The one star there is truly legit. Unlike in Asia where one star means using premium ingredients, the one star here uses everyday ingredients and make it special.
I especially like the har gau that is topped with scallop. I like the fat and plump prawns in the siew mai that not only tastes crunchy, it is light and strong in flavour. The other dishes in the basket stands out in their own right. This is simply a joy to eat and all I can ask my friend is why only bring me here on the last day of my stay?!
Had this marvelous experience at Sketch Afternoon Tea set. It's awesome for a few reasons ranging from delicious pastries to an amazing toilet. I found the food to hit the right notes, the scones were near perfect but I was too full to appreciate English scones. The cakes and savories weren't too sweet and fairly light so it made the entire experience easier to finish.
The toilet is amazing. I stepped in and I had a shock. It completed the entire artistic experience at Sketch where every art piece on display is unique. You get live classical music serenaded by musicians there.
The tea selection was good and you can try a range of them while enjoying your afternoon tea. I felt I got good value for the pounds I paid.
Crispy fried chicken chunks that were flavourful and easy to eat. The waffle came looking impressive - tall and well browned, and indeed it was crispy outside, fluffy inside. The batter is on the sweet side, closer in taste to pancakes. Douse the maple syrup for added sweetness though I find the waffle to be good enough on its own.
Trying Michelin star food in Asia versus London has given me a contrast in terms of how stars get awarded. In Asia, I feel ambiance can sometimes earn the restaurant additional stars. In London, I feel the food deserves every bit of the stars awarded just like at Dinner by Heston. 2 stars and the spiced squab pigeon taste tender, retaining its original pigeon flavours, goes well with the caramelised onions and sauces... the meat is cooked just right and can be enjoyed very much on its own without additional help from sauces.
This isn't to say that the ambiance sucked or the service sucked. In fact, both were impeccable. It's just that the food is graded fairly and not forced to be enhanced by external factors simply because the country lacks the quality to produce enough 2 or 3 star establishments.
Flour and Grape has proven to be my favourite pasta joint in London. This is my second visit and the pasta is as good as ever. It is an added bonus that this generous plate with ingredients spilling from the plate only cost 9 pounds. The entire dish is extremely flavourful and the taste lingers long after you finish. It makes me want to go there and try every single pasta on their menu! The pasta was al dente and the staff were friendly. It's an awesome place to dine!
The price to pay to eat this stir fried cheong fun is to go down this scary basement. The decoration is with greenish lighting and the ambiance is dark. I happened to be the only patron there at that hour which made it worse because it's really eerie. Thankfully the food is nice. A little on the saltish side but it's definitely well fried and power packed with flavour. The service is also really awesome. Worth a try if you are as into fried cheong fun as me.
This is a popular fresh bakery that locals go for their breakfast fix. The selection of fresh bakes is uniquely London. It's an awesome way to start your day if you are here visiting and you really feel English after a meal!
Kam's Roast has just become my favourite roast meat restaurant in Singapore. The roast duck here is oozing with flavour and it's extremely tender. The duck was a joy to eat especially after they removed the bones at my request. Honestly, I've never finished plates of pure meat without veg and feel like I can eat more! It shows just how tender the meat is and how it doesn't make one 'jelat'.

Chee cheong fun - The rice roll was a little springier and firmer, and had a delicate eggy aroma.

This $3.50 porridge at Everyday Come Coffee Shop totally surprised me. Firstly, I have a prejudice towards coffeeshop porridge because I had too many bad ones. Nowadays I don't even bother with trying... so I stood outside the stall really long before parting with my $3.50. The porridge was filled with sweetness and flavour. Aside from that, the fish slices were thick and plump, it's such a joy to eat! Because of this experience, I'll give some other Hawker porridge stalls another go!
I'm personally not much of a fan of pizzas but this one managed to get my stamp of approval. It's made of cheddar, mozzarella and parmesan, lychee and smoked duck. The 3 cheese really stood out in this pizza and the cheesy taste kept pulling me back for another slice. I liked it that they paired the smoked duck with lychee. It added balance and sweetness to this strongly flavoured dish. Eating this pizza surprised me in so many ways.. from the onset of even enjoying the pizza to the end where I praised a dish with fruits in it (I don't like fruits in my food).
