This laid-back trattoria at Singapore Botanic Gardens is the place to grab a pizza while your furry friend gets a bit of sun. The alfresco area at Casa Verde welcomes dogs of all sizes. It's very popular among dog owners and young families, so expect to pick your way through both dogs and toddlers alike. Food-wise, Burppler Carrie Carrie recommends the Laksa ($9.50), which she said is worth every cent she spent. Ask for belacan if you fancy more of kick, like she did. Casa Verde also does excellent pizzas (from $24) — it's hard to go wrong when everything is good! Pro tip: If you want to hang out in the gardens while noshing on good food, consider getting the Picnic Basket ($30), filled with hearty bites including two six-inch pizzas, to take with you out onto the greens. We're sure your pooch would love the extra space.

This spacious (60 indoor seats) and well-maintained cafe in Sunny Heights is one of our top picks. The decor is minimalistic, which ensures good space for dogs to roam, and the charm lies in its dog-centric details like filtered tap water at the sink, baby-proofed sharp edges and fenced outdoor space that gives pooches plenty of freedom to wander without owners fearing they would slip out. Sunny Heights offers free parking, plus the place is part of a complex that includes a doggy pool and pet groomer, which justifies the drive out to this part of Bukit Timah. While pets roam and play, humans can feast on real, good food (all free from MSG) like Salmon Teriyaki Rice ($19.80) and Duck Pasta ($17.80). Pro tip: The cafe only allows pet food from nearby Bossipaws. It also gets crowded on weekends, so make reservations.

Set within lush Bishan Park, this casual chic restaurant turns out smart plates, and the garden setting makes for an atmospheric day out with your dog. Pop by after a morning frolick in the park, pull up a seat at the alfresco dining area and feast on hearty brunch plates like Corned Beef Hash ($12), Buttermilk Pancake ($10) and Serrano Ham Sandwiches ($15). Burppler Shawn Loh loves the Crabmeat Aglio Olio ($19) — if you're a chilli fiend like him, ask for extra spicy only if you can take the serious heat. Pro tip: The spacious alfresco area is surrounded by bushes — great for curious pets but humans should pile on the insect repellant.

For a family brunch or girly catch-up in a green oasis near town, Open Farm Community's the place. The food at this rustic-chic, farm-to-table dining space is put together with much thought and very delicious — Burppler Jackson Sim really loved the Rigatoni with Local Mushrooms, Smoked Pancetta, Stilton and Balsamic Glaze ($28). Also, don't miss the Burpple community's favourite of Lemon Tart with Basil Ice Cream ($14) — so refreshing! Enjoy your food at the spacious alfresco area when you have your dogs with you. The greenery is great for roaming, both for fur kids and children.

The food is hearty and good, and they love animals — there hardly is a better place for East-side pet owners to hang out at than at this longstanding Telok Kurau cafe. The attentive staff are known to treat pets to a refreshing bowl of water upon arrival. On top of that, there are several pet-related shops along the stretch — perfect for stocking up on treats and essentials. The menu of comfort classics sees the likes of their popular Tom Yum Pasta Vongole ($19.50) and Signature Cowboy Burger ($25, named after the resident cat, Cowboy), along with a few surprising additions. Check out the Roti Johnson ($25), which does a cheeseburger in the style of a roti John, complete with chilli eggs and lots of cheese.

Set in a quiet Serangoon neighbourhood, this cosy cafe is often filled with dog owners, making it a great spot for an impromptu play date for your pets. There even is a menu of pet food using human grade meats and vegetables, and cooked without seasoning — an 80g portion of boiled minced meat starts from $6, and they also serve assorted fruit and vegetables ($3 per portion). They also restrict ingredients that are toxic to pets in their regular menu, so there's no chance of fur kids gobbling up whole onions, chocolates or nuts from the floor. (Dogs are allowed indoors.) Try the Beef & Spinach Omelette ($14), which sees fluffy eggs blanketing a delish wagyu patty beneath. They take their coffee seriously, so you'll be hard pressed to find any fault in their brew, or more reasonable prices! (One of their baristas is the national champion for the Singapore AeroPress Championship 2017.) Sip on a Flat White ($3) or treat yourself to the Metrosexual ($4.50), an alcoholic blend of espresso, gula Melaka and Kahlúa.

Set in a row of shophouses along Upper Thomson Road, Pasta J makes an excellent spot for pasta-loving dog owners. Dogs are welcome indoors, but you will have to keep yours on a leash beside you. The owner is likely to come by with lots of cuddles though! He's also known to host dress-up events for fur babies. The upcoming Pasta J Dog Halloween Party is on 29 October, with a best dressed competition for owners and their dogs who show up in costume. Food wise, Pasta J does excellent pastas. Get your meat on with the Caramel Carnivore ($16.90). Burpple Tastemaker Kelly Wong loves how the pasta is slicked with smoky, caramelised onions and tossed with marrow, meat and cartilage. She also declares the topping of pork balls to be the yummiest she's had! Pro tip: Seating is limited so make reservations if you're visiting in a group.

Lunch with M. He never runs out of nice (and clean!) hawker places to bring me. My YTF is usually in soup so this was very different for me. I liked it!
