Classic Afternoon Tea: Origins Though the tai-tai life didn鈥檛聽choose me, there's nothing quite like taking an afternoon off and living聽the聽posh聽life. And so with InterContinental Singapore鈥檚 Executive Pastry Chef Ben Goh鈥檚 Classic Afternoon Tea: Origins at The Lobby Lounge, get a treat for two at $78++. Daily 2pm to 5pm, from now till 31st October; sip聽on tea as you take in the live music, nibble on sumptuous petit-fours and聽pig out on their small selection of ice cream which you can help yourself to unlimited servings at the counter (yes you heard that right, UNLIMITED ice cream). And so, the highlight for me included the savoury Bacon Onion Quiche, fancy morsels of Mantou embellished with Crab Meat, Avocado, Prawns, and Caviar as well as soft-buttery scones. The Cranberry Lemon and English Scones went perfectly with the trio of strawberry jam, fig jam and clotted cream. Also, pinkies up for the warm Wild Mushroom Cappuccino with White Truffle Cream and toasted baguette. Wondrously creamy, the flavours were spot on and my favourite of the lot! For the sweet tooths, the Chocolate Lemongrass Pineapple Cake was a well-balanced take on the usual chocolate mousse cake. The Kueh Lapis were firm, fragrant and not greasy at all. Lastly, you have to save some tummy space as聽you can鈥檛 miss out on their Yoghurt Yuzu ice cream that can serve as a great palate cleanser - tangy, and refreshing with a touch of tartness.

Classic Afternoon Tea $78 for two This is the August 2019 menu. Especially enjoyed the quiche, surprised because most of the high tea places have underwhelming savoury items. Love how they put so much thought into each item, and it鈥檚 not just icing and creme.

Miso Caramel Soft Serve This pale yellow hued soft serve ($7) is super interesting with the umami, fermented flavor of miso in the backdrop of the sweetness of burnt caramel. Not bad, just different in a good way. In fact, it prevented the soft serve from tasting overly rich and sweet and the caramel flavor didn't get too jelak or overpowering. And I loved the popcorn too. It was crunchy and paired well with the soft serve well.

Nori, Avo and Eggs This dish is basically a slab of ciabatta, slathered with smashed avocado and nori jam and topped with crispy kale. It normally comes with scrambled eggs but for the sake of yolk porn I changed it to two organic jammy eggs (no regrets!). At first I took a bite and was like 'ugh, my mouth is just chock full of vegetables and the nori jam is so seaweedy and overpowering' but eventually the medley of flavors and textures grew on me. The ciabatta is dense and chewy while the avocado is soft and creamy. The kale adds a crispy, flaky crunch and a hint of earthiness. The gooey yolk is resplendent with umami. So overall I think I really liked it haha. The Mediterranean vibes are real, with the exotic blend of flavors and complex creamy textures. 8/10

Dry Banmian 4nett Noodles were great as they were springy and slightly soft yet has a bite. Sambal was more full on fiery than umami, and the seemingly Small amount actl sufficed. Black sauce was good too and their Minced Meat was fatty so it was rlly tender. Soup veggie didnt have the best texture but it more than made up for it in the flavour imbued into the umami soup Green sauce was bright, slightly sour, palpably bitter which worked rather well and hella fragrant when mixed into the hot Noodles. Somehow the bite doesnt come when eating it on its own but i almost teared when i had my first bite of the green chili mixed in All the little things they do uniquely, incl the chye Poh, made this one of the best Banmian I've ever had

Great Ban Mian In The Hood Saw a steady stream of patrons buying ban mian from this stall at Serangoon Gardens Market, and decided to give it a try. It really didn鈥檛 disappoint! I really loved the chilli (they gave a small portion but it packed sufficient punch for a chilli lover like me), and the noodles were handmade and wonderfully bouncy. The soup with egg white mixed into it was a wonderful touch too!

Dry Ban Mian from Bossi Ban Mian, doesn鈥檛 look like much but the flavours made up for it! For my first ever bowl of dry ban mian, I enjoyed the sticky sweet sauce though it can get quite overwhelming, especially towards the bottom of the bowl!馃ア Add the slightly sour-spicy green chilli sauce to transform it鈥檚 originally pretty flat taste into a myriad of flavours! 馃槢 Although I felt that the noodles could have been a little softer, overall it was quite a decent bowl!馃憣馃徏鉁

Bak Chor Pasta It鈥檚 so bad that after one mouth I threw the dish aside. Imagine eating a sour pork and the taste of sour pork empowered the entire noodle. Almost puke 馃ぎ
