One of the most famous and best CKT in Penang has to be this! You have the option of topping up for duck eggs which makes the CKT more aromatic and creamier. It's something you can't find in SG cos AVA doesn't allow sales of duck eggs. If you like spicy, the spiciness at Ah Leng can be a little disappointing cos there is no spicy kick. But on the brighter note, it allows you to taste more of the original.

Cost: RM8.50 + RM1 (Duck egg)

Visited the carnival just for the food. 🀣 The Dirty Fries ($6) were nothing fanciful and you can definitely skip that. Seafood in a Bucket ($15) was worth the try though. I liked the chilli crab sauce cos there was a spicy kick unlike many other chilli crab I had elsewhere. The okinawa tea was kinda light - would have loved it to be thicker. Wasabi mayo wings with nachos was not bad - the mid wings were HUGE, and there was a wasabi kick. They didn't give much cheese for the nachos though.

We wanted to try the meatballs but had to wait 40 mins! 😣 Anyway if you are still heading there today, go to the Promonatary area because there are more food choices, more seating and more spacious!

This coffee stall serves half boiled eggs that are to perfection. We each had a set of 2 eggs and then indulged ourselves with kway chap. Heavy breakfast indeed!

There was already a long queue when we arrived at 11.15am. Finally placed our order half an hour later, hoping it's worth the wait. Ordered the Sliced Fish Bee Hoon Soup (without milk), Yuan Yang Fish Soup (without milk) and Tom Yam Sliced Fish Soup @ $14.50. Standard fish soup (with/without noodles) is $4.50 each.

Visually the bowls look pretty appetizing and the tom yam looks really tomyam-y. Tom yam was kinda too sour on the first sip of the soup but I guess the taste bud would just get used to it. The plain soup tasted sweet - but we just couldn't figure out how and where the unnatural sweetness came from. Not even my foodie mum could say what it was. If you ask me, it's not really worth the wait. But try it for yourself since it is always attracting a long queue!

First visit to Nando's and we went for the simplest item off the menu. Ordered the 1/4 chicken (Hot) with coleslaw and it comes with a drink (bottomless, I.e. free flow). The spicy level wasn't quite what I had expected. It was on the sour side. I would definitely order the Very Hot version next time. The coleslaw tasted jelat as the mayo was really rich. I would advise that you share the coleslaw with your friends or skip it!

Just in case you are new to Nando's like I am, they actually have the different sauces at the condiments section. Yay you can eat the chicken with a variety of sauces!

Believe it or not, this is my first ever proper Ponggol Nasi Lemak. I suppose I've somewhat tasted it before years ago but not a proper meal. And the main reasons that deter me from buying are the long queues and my impression of it being over-priced.

I still think It's expensive ($7.70) but considering that they are generous with the Fried Kuning (4 pcs), and the juicy chicken wing, I think still kinda worth it? The chilli though on the sweet side is actually tasty! You could taste the dried shrimp in it.

As with the Kovan outlet, the queue is long! Occasional indulgence is alright I guess...

Priced at $14, Ajisai's Kara Red Miso is generous with their ingredients - bamboo shoots, cabbage, leek. If you dig into the soup, you would find pieces of tender cha siu too. The large piece of cha siu on the other hand is a little tough and bland on its own (but it's all lean). The soup is kinda on the salty side, so soak the cha siu into the soup to get some taste! Oh, and they have free flow spicy marinated beansprouts. Perfect match to throw the beansprouts into your bowl of ramen!

Note: Hokkaido Marche only accepts cash, and there is no GST or service charge.

You know it's Spring when you see the pretty blossom pink everywhere! The green tea sponge cake is stacked with layers of cherry blossom flavoured cream. The sponge cake could have been more moist. But overall, this is a really light cake for desserts.

Haven't had my favourite Kaisendon from Teppei in a while! The marinade was really on point and chunky, and I almost couldn't find the rice! πŸ˜‚

Only learned today that this is where the Teppei craze started. They are famous for the omakase and it's said that you'll have to make reservation at least 1-2 months in advance. Our friend is a regular of the restaurant and we got preferential treatment today. We were probably the only ones who could dine in with their ala carte menu. The others had to buy takeaway cos they were only serving omakase today. Such privilege!

I was expecting the place to be crowded since it only started operations 2 days ago. Hokkaido Marche doesn't have a really large seating capacity. The area is brightly lit and looks so welcoming. It is free seating and works just like a food court, but with only Japanese cuisine. You will also be issued a buzzer upon ordering for self collection.

Tried the Karakuchi Miso Ramen aka spicy miso ramen ($14) topped with Ajitama aka seasoned egg ($1.50). The egg was disappointing cos the seasoning tasted a little sour and the yolk was pretty cooked - not what I was expecting. The spicy miso ramen wasn't spicy to me, but could be for those who don't/can't take spicy well. The miso though rich, didn't make the soup too salty like many other ramen shops. What's different is also the pieces of pork chunks instead of the usual slices of pork cha siu. The pork was seasoned really well. Try chewing on the pork chunks on its own and you would taste the essence in it.

Other ingredients in each bowl: black fungus, seaweed, bean sprouts, carrot, bamboo shoots, spring onions, leek.

Note: Hokkaido Marche only accepts cash, and there is no GST or service charge.

We arrived at Tiong Bahru at about 12.30pm on a Saturday and there was already a long queue at the stall (10-15 pax in line). The premium char siew (不见倩叉烧) was sold out by the time it's our turn, so we had to settle for the normal char siew. 😣 The noodles were springy and you would notice how they didn't add the black sauce of sorts to the noodles. All so original taste! The char siew were sliced thickly and is not too fatty. Some pieces were a little tough though. Oh and each plate comes with 2 pieces of wanton in the soup!

Damage: $4 per plate of normal wanton noodles

Finally tried this claypot hokkien mee! This pot is $25 and feeds 5 pax fully. If you just want the hokkien mee as a staple food and order other dishes elsewhere, this pot can definitely feed even more pax. Personally I like this sort of wet-style hokkien mee. Flavour was just nice, but the chilli was a little normal. Oh they even have lobster or abalone version too!

Ingredients found: sotong, pork belly, lala, 5 big prawns (deshelled), fried pork belly, fried pork lark

Waiting time: approx 10-15 mins at 6.50pm on Saturday
