Do you remember during your childhood years that you were fed with Vegemite in your porridge? This savoury yeast extract spread has truly transcended all age groups and cuisine as you can get it on toasts and even in pastas. At Firebake, you can certainly get a bake with Vegemite in the form of the Cheesymites, which are only available during the weekends. Each Cheesymite is made from a sourdough base that is layered with cheese and Vegemite before going into the woodfire. If you wish to get your hands on them, do pre-order beforehand on the weekdays and get them on one of the weekends as it is very limited in stock. To enquiry or order the bakes and other menu items, do WhatsApp the restaurant at 9784 2950 and enjoy free islandwide delivery if you order more than $80. Yong Tau Foo (SGD $10) @ Soon Li. . Visiting this stall requires advance planning, with its iffy, unusual opening hours. . Went it alone this time, which goes against all advice and prior experience - you need at least 2 people to queue. . One queues for payment, the other queues to pick the ingredients. The latter has to regularly pop in and out of queue when items are replenished. . Still, managed to get by on the kindness of strangers, who helped save my spot in the queue. Couldn't manage a large portion, so didn't get their iconic metal bowl. . Must-get here: the pork belly, stuffed tofu, stuffed tofu puffs, and stuffed vegetables. I usually get both their robust soup (say yes when they ask if you want ikan bilis and chili), and the rich YTF pink gravy. . The soup has an addictive sweet savoury flavour with a light spicy kick. The gravy has a complementary depth of sweet savoury, making this bowl really delicious. . Usually open (but not always) from 12midnight to 3am. Best time to visit is actually between 11:45pm - 2:15am. Closed on Sunday night / Monday morning. . Go earlier if you want more variety of ingredients (with the risk they might open late + a long queue). Go later if you want a short queue (with the risk that some ingredients are sold out). . . . Midnight YTF $7 odd per pax, the elderly couple is known to be ferocious towards people who doesn’t follow their “rules”, and charges customers as they please... I wonder if they consulted a Fengshui sensei about their stall’s opening hours and their attitude toward customers (or could be the other way round, chicken-and-egg issue hahas). Back to the topic, love the peppery soup, as peppery as the stallholders, it reminds me of bak kut teh, with more dried chili flakes! Don’t order the pig innards, they just taste weird. Must take those 3-layer sio bak!

Flaky Egg Tart! We were at D'bun earlier this morning and had more variety of items to choose from. Instead of getting their paus (which was good), we tried their egg tarts ($1.80 a piece) this time round! The crust was flaky but it wasn't the buttery kind! But it still made a good egg tart (we had the mango pudding and guilinggao to go along as well - $1.80/cup) Once again thanks to D'bun for the vouchers giveaway!

👉TRUFFLE Lu Rou Fan (SG Style)👈 Highly recommended with a total of ⭐️⭐️⭐️ by @foodkingnoc, I knew I had to try it for myself. And boy, was I pretty impressed by it. 。 Bringing a twist into the usual braised pork rice, the truffle taste wasn’t exactly robust but surprisingly helped to elevate the overall flavour of the dish. Each piece of braised pork belly also had a visually appealing ratio of meat to fat, just the way I like it to be. However, I wished the egg was more deeply marinated with the braising sauce. Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 。 📍Shilin Night Market Singapore (LAST DAY 28/4 3PM - 11PM) - Booth 91 & 92

Steamed Mini Pandan Coconut Cakes Puteri ayu These are so hard to find in Singapore and I am Glad that I found them here . Topped with fresh grated coconut , the Pandan coconut cakes were moist and flavourful without being too sweet. Slightly more densed than chiffon cakes , these steamed cakes are still spongy and airy 😊 This makes a perfect tea time treat with a cup of coffee or tea 😊

Ang Ku Kueh While most would flock to Poh Cheu at Blk 127 Bukit Merah Lane 1 for their infamous Ang Ku kueh , I like to get my Ang Ku kueh these days from Lina confectionary ( which is just next to Keng Eng Kee seafood ) - an old school kueh kueh shop helmed by an Indonesian lady . Given the high quality authentic kuehs that are served up by Lina confectionary , I am quite surprised that not many have heard of this shop 😌. I love their yam Ang ( purple) ku kueh and their Mung bean Ang ku kueh especially. Because they only make very limited quantities daily - it is good to go early before they get snapped up. They also make very good lemper ayam ( steamed chicken rice with chicken floss ), sardine and potato curry puffs and authentic risoles ( a type of Indonesian fried spring roll with a crisp flour exterior and an interior of minced chicken meat ) . Particularly outstanding are also their kueh lapis sagu ( Qian Cheng Gao)- so QQ, moist and with a good coconut flavour. Can I also say that their kueh dada are also one of the best I have eaten ?🤣 Almost about any and everything that I have tried from this shop is good .

Review on Kueh Lapis Sagu ($1) Besides the steamed kaya cake, I also bought the 9-layers cake aka 九层糕. It is made of glutinous rice flour, coconut and sugar. The first thing that struck me was the small, narrow slice of kueh lapis Sagu. But then again, I reminded myself that they are only selling it for $1. Also, the number of layers is astounding. Instead of 9 layers, there are a whopping 18 layers in each slice! I read online that each layer takes 12 minutes to steam, and each tray of kueh lapis sagu takes almost 4 hours to make from start to finish! I love to peel the kueh layer by layer and slowly savour each layer! As I peeled each layer off, I realised how incredibly stretchy they are. Lina's beautiful kueh lapis sagu is delicious. It is sufficiently sweet without being cloying, unbelievably thin, soft, and stretchy. It is altogether amazing!
