A great mix with the lean cut, the Black Angus Beef ($38) Sando was balanced by the crunch from the shredded cabbage, and zing from the addition of shiso leaf. While it does look a tad dry after the hour-long journey to my house, it wasn’t so and was sufficiently tender. The batter wasn’t thick either. It also had a tinge of sharpness from the Japanese horseradish to cut the richness.
Next, the Wagyu Potato Croquette ($18) was a pleasant surprise with the meaty texture. Essentially chunky mashed potato croquette with bits of wagyu between bread and greens, it wasn’t too heavy. The batter was thin and remained tantalizingly crisp.
• Matcha Latte (2 cold 1 hot) ($6.30 each u.p.)
The matcha latte was good surprisingly. There was no powder residue in the drink at all. I saw them stirring the matcha with the brush and i knew it was gonna be smooth. I redeemed 1 deal and paid for the 3rd cup at normal price.
• Beef Cubes 10/10 🤤
• Sunddubu jiggae (spicy tofu stew) 7/10 👌
• Mentaiko Pasta 0/10 👎
• Cheesy Spicy Chicken with Tteobeokki 8/10 👍 (not in picture)
Overall will not visit again. Only the beef cubes were worth my money ($18 for 10 wagyu cubes).
Mentaiko pasta is so disgusting (mentaiko lovers, you will be so so so disappointed!! The plain ingredients aside, the pasta literally taste like buttery cream wtf 🤬).
Spicy Tofu Stew was not bad. the soup tasted good.
Was such a scam, told them im using Burpple when i entered, and we had 3pax. After eating and going to counter to pay, i told them i want redeem 2 deals (4 dishes total) and they told me cannot cos we only have 3pax??? None of the restaurants i went to had this rule. I was able to redeem as many deals as i wanted cos Burpple doesn't go by the number of pax. I asked again and they still rejected me saying 2 person one deal. So in the end we paid $60 for 4 dishes ($20 each pax) + none of the dishes were even filling wtf (all 3 of us girls were still hungry) such a waste of money DONT GO.
paid a total of $70.62 (2 burpple deals)
• steak with egg
• fish n chips
• bacon and mushroom carbonara
• truffle and mushroom pizza
definitely a must try for truffle and mushroom pizza! those who love truffle will love it (this truffle pizza is the best one i have eaten and i always order this when i visit harry's). the steak was damn good too ordered medium rare and it was very tender. fish n chips was good too as it was very crispy but i feel had a stronger fishy taste than other fish n chips i had eaten. the only dish not worth the money was the carbonara. taste of the cream sauce is weird and as a carbonara lover myself, i give that carbonara 5/10 (considering its ingredients).
do take note that the steak and fish n chips are not included in burpple deal.
You can check out @onkeitonkatsu at Paya Lebar Square (01-85). A sister concept to @keikaisendon, treat yourself to a fairly affordable tonkatsu dinner since the weekend’s here.
Think of all the tonkatsu combinations that you can and they have it - Tonkatsu, chicken katsu, cheese tonkatsu, mentaiko tonkatsu, miso tonkatsu, curry katsu, ebi katsu and fish katsu.
All sets are served with a choice of Hokkaido white rice or multigrain rice, shredded cabbage, tonjiru soup, pickles, tonkatsu sauce and green tea. So here’s what we had.
Cheese Tonkatsu Set ($21.90++ for 120g/$23.90++ for 160g). Breaded pork loin cutlet with a cheesy mozzarella centre. As the camera took awhile to eat, we didn’t experience the stringiness of the mozzarella but I’d say it’s relatively decent. Only the pork loin option is available for this.
The good part of the katsu here is the crispness of the freshly made panko breadcrumbs yet the pork cutlet itself isn’t oily at all.
As a fan of Japanese curry, I added the side of Curry ($3.80++) which was fairly decent.
Mentaiko Tonkatsu Set (Pork loin: $21.90++ for 120g/$23.90++ for 160g). Essentially a piece of breaded pork cutlet topped with pure salted cod roe that gives it that umami kick. Although a favourite among my fellow Singaporeans, mentaiko isn’t something that will catch my eye.
As for the cutlet itself, there’s room for fine tuning. Ideally, pork loin should be moist and tender owing to its greater fat content. Ours was slightly tough and dry. We had this before their official opening and I believe they have since addressed the issue.
Thank you @onkeitonkatsu for hosting us to this tonkatsu dinner.
Visited the recently opened Super Thai by Soi Aroy — the Thai establishment located at Upper Aljunied Road near the Joo Seng neighbourhood is opened by the same folks behind Soi Aroy; one of my favourite Thai establishments best known for their Creamy Tom Yum Noodles and Thai-style Mee Pok which has outlets at both Sim Lim Square and Singapore Management University.
Serving up Thai cuisine communal-style, expect the usual selection of vegetables, poultry/meat, fish and noodle/rice options apart from curries and Tom Yum, as well as desserts. The Crispy Omelette with Crab Meat is one of the stand-out dishes that they have here (the other dishes we had were also equally good). The literal fried egg is not only airy and fluffy, but we found it to be immensely crispy even after being left at the table for a while — also not being in any way greasy as well. Add the crab meat atop, and it adds a distinct note of crustacean sweetness to the omelette; pretty fresh. Those who the dish to be a little dry can choose to have the egg with the Thai sweet chili sauce served on the side; not only adds moisture to dish, but also a hint of sweetness and spiciness to the omelette. Otherwise, enjoy the crispy omelette like how the folks at Thai Jing Jing had recommended me years ago; order a Clear Tom Yum Soup, add dip the omelette in for a dash of tanginess and spiciness.
Brown rice, topped with chunky, creamy chicken masala and greens. Similar to the baos, this is a generous portion more than sufficient for one. Would even say it lies on the heavier side, though that drizzle of salsa verde does help lift the flavours.
Salmon Mentaiko Don is 😍🤤!! Paid $30 1-for1 deal for Salmon Mentai Don and Signature Truffle Wagyu Don. Salmon cubes are raw.
Take a piece of the smoky wagyu with that truffle sauce, dip it in the onsen egg and pair that with rice and you have an explosion of flavours in your mouth. Beef slices are mostly tender. I do wish that the truffle taste could be stronger and the rice could be flavoured though!
On a side note, service is excellent here and the ambience is rather amazing. Great for date night spots!
I think this restaurant changed their menu, have eaten here several times. Prices went up and portion reduced! From garlic fried rice become white Japanese rice. No longer have mushroom for their truffle beef cube don... not worth for the money anymore.
Italian x Japanese food at Lecoq. What we had are yum albeit the small portion. Another worthy place to check out with burpple beyond!
New outlet that opened at scape, also a new BB partner so I decided to try it out! Glad that I did because I don’t frequent CBTL, but this mocha latte is a game changer that makes me believe that chocolate & coffee can go well together. Coffee smell is aromatic and the chocolate taste makes the entire drink even more special. Will definitely go back for more. Matcha latte suits people who love milky & creamy drinks, but I find it a bit too sweet. Manager there was friendly and offered us complimentary vouchers. Nice interior, it was quiet when I went there. Good for chilling and studying!
