We all know Taipei has amazing mee sua with intestines and/or oysters. Most of love 阿宗面线, but I thought it must be popular due to its convenient location at Xinending, and there must be better ones elsewhere? So during my short trip I tried out two others - 阿川 recommended by the locals, and 阿辉 recommended by Michelin Guide Taipei, having being awarded a Michelin Plate.
🔸
I wished I can tell you that 阿宗 (second video) is over-rated, too commercialized, I've found a hidden gem elsewhere etc etc. But turns out I still prefer 阿宗 over the rest. 阿辉 (third video) at Shilin Night Market was a close second, having more well-braised intestines that was soft, bouncy and tasty. 阿宗 was a better well-rounder, tastier gravy with noodles that was well-separated, that's soft but still held together without breaking.
🔸
The mee sua pictured on the cover, 阿川, was bad - it has nothing redeeming except the oysters. Broth was overly starchy (corn starch kind of starchy, as opposed to being rich or creamy), and intestines has a strong innards smell (not clean).
