I don't know what it's really called in Korean, so I'm christening it myself haha. But anyway, I came here thinking that it was gonna be tteokbokki, aka dukbokki, served street style, in small portions. Well, consider me schooled and educated. I entered one of the shops down the street (they all serve the exact same thing, so really, any one will do), where a man standing outside spoke to me in English and proceeded to place a single order for me. My jaw hit the floor when the ahjumma brought out the hot pot heaped with ramyun, some spaghetti-like noodles, fishcakes, bean sprouts, cabbage, a hard-boiled egg, and of course, rice cakes. I certainly ain't gonna be able to finish the whole pot of carbs on my own, but boy, I just can't get enough of that rich, spicy, tomato-y soup!

This is a famous stretch in Sindang-dong where there are at least 10 eateries all selling the same thing: spicy rice cake hotpots.
