Spicy version of the Yuzu ramen. Spicy chicken broth with a tangy Citrus taste.

This place exceeded my expectations! Wandered in at about 9pm (no queue) bc we had no idea what to have for dinner.

The yuzu ramen has a light but flavourful broth with strong yuzu taste, and I like it more than the standard tonkotsu broth. It doesn’t get jelat! Noodles were a bit thinner and had a softer texture compared to the tsukumen / regular ramen but I didn’t mind it at all! The egg was soft w a runny yolk which was nice.

The yuzu tsukemen tho. It’s served cold with a delicious yuzu-soy dipping sauce which hit all the right notes. The meat was lean with some fat, it was q tasty! The egg in this was a little less runny than the egg in the yuzu ramen, so kinda inconsistent. But I realllyyy liked the tsukumen and I would come back for this. The sauce is rly gr8!!

The gyoza was okay only bc it wasn’t crispy. But still pretty decent.

I think the bad reviews for this place is bc Singaporeans r used to heavier stronger flavours and hence don’t appreciate such food.

Finally checked Afuri off my to try list recently.

The 2 most popular items here are the Yuzu Shio Ramen and Yuzu Tsukemen, and i opted for the former. With my first sip of the broth, the citrusy taste was very overpowering and did take getting used to as i’m more partial towards the heavier tasting full bodied broth. Overall, i would say while the broth was light and refreshing (once you get used to the citrusy taste), i would probably stick to my usual tonkotsu ramen. Another gripe I had was that the portion size was not the most generous for its pricing range.

Unique broth, but I still prefer tonkotsu ramen. Also the chasu wasn't very good and was a miserable amount.

Afuri's specialty is yuzu ramen - they have all sorts, but I chose the Yuzu Tsukemen ($15.90++), the dipping ramen, which a friend had highly raved about earlier. Obviously, because this is dipping ramen, don't expect it to be piping hot like a soupy ramen is. Please hor.

Pick up some noodles with your chopsticks, dunk it in the sauce, & slurp. As I slurped on my noodles, I felt pleased with my good judgement. The citrus flavour from the yuzu adds a refreshing twist to the savoury sauce.

It doesn't look like it in this photo, but the dipping sauce is plentiful. You won't run out, nor will you want to finish it all because this isn't a soup & it is too salty on its own to drink. Being a non-fan of Japan (haven't been there in >15 years), I can't say for sure how authentic this is. But I can tell you I definitely enjoyed it.

The pork chunks had little layers of fat on it, but I still felt the meat was a bit too dry for my liking. Thankfully, it wasn't overly tough to chew, so I finished it all. The other ingredients - half a boiled egg (with a nicely runny yolk in the middle!) & bamboo shoots, were in good proportion with respect to the ramen noodles.

The craziness for queueing here is dieing off so finally I made the visit. 2pm lunch provided no queue and fast food service time. The soup is light and refreshing. The additional of yuzu peel brings it up to the next level. The slice of Char Siew is a bit on the dry side but is to my liking. I'll definitely come back to try Yuzu Tsukemen and gyoza.
