The stall is well known for its xlb, but the 红油抽手 ($4.50 for 10) is a staple for me! The dumpling has skin soft and silky, is filled with a generous portion of tender meat and coated with heaps of vinegar and chilli oil yums

Well known & loved for its xlb, this stall is no stranger to those who frequent AV!! This is their guotie ($5 for 10) - it looks haphazardly put together, but it tastes much much better. Love how the skin is chewy and has a crispy charred surface! The meat filling is super juicy 👍🏼

Stew Beef & Tendon Fire-pot ($8)
Apart from the beef and tendon, sliced radish, carrots and celery are added as well. The stew was flavourful, rich and had a thick consistency. While the tendon was on the softer side, without much bite/chew to it, the beef was generally very tender. Overall, this is a great dish to warm you up on a rainy day and will go very well with a bowl of rice. (Additional $0.50)
Taste: 9/10 (Very comforting and satisfying)

My usual favourite stall at Alexandra Village Food Centre was closed for 2 weeks, so I ventured to another one. Prawn Mee was the craving of the day, & it being past 2PM on a weekday, I didn't have as much options at this hawker centre as compared to during regular lunch hour.

Gave Wei Zhong Qi Prawn Noodle 味中奇虾面 (#01-87) a shot, & ordered the large prawn noodles ($6.00 nett) because I was hungry.

In theory, this would have been good. Substantial ingredients: Several sizeable peeled prawns, fishcakes, thin pork slices that weren't tough, & bean sprouts. However, this fell short of expectations & I knew it the moment it was served to me.

You can tell why, too. Just look at how overcooked the prawns are. & looking at the texture, the freshness is questionable too. My first bite into it confirmed this, & I struggled to finish the rest of the prawns in my bowl.

The soup also felt salt-laden, & didn't have that umami flavour that I love. I also struggled to finish that, as well... Which is so unlike me.

Overall, unfortunately a disappointing bowl of prawn noodles that I wouldn't recommend or order again.

My mum and I enjoyed our order of “Ma La Xiang Guo” from stall #01-42 at Alexandra Village Food Centre. Operated by a mainland Chinese couple, their spectrum of spiciness is on the bolder end, so our bowl of 中辣 (medium level of spiciness) had me panting and continually reaching for a sip of my drink. We found their version really fragrant - definitely a notch above many out there. It also has a distinctive element of curry in its flavour profile. We were fine with it but if you are fussy about having only the “ma” and the “la” in your hotpot, then this might not be suitable.

Finally tried this and it's very good. Really nothing to fault and special mentions go to the deep-tasting soup and the silky bird.
