I am not a big fan of Indian food in general but nasi briyani is one of those dishes I will sacrifice my waistline for.

Allauddin is said to serve one of the best nasi briyanis in town. For $6, you get a tender and juicy drumstick in a glistening heap of golden orange basmati rice flavoured with various spices such as cumin, cardamon, fennel seeds and cloves. I like that the spices are not overwhelmingly strong and there is a nice sweet aftertaste.

However, from the sea of similar stalls, the one that stood out the most has got to be the MICHELIN Guide’s Allauddin’s Briyani, so popular that it now has two stalls in the same food centre, selling an array of other dishes besides briyani. I am usually more a chicken biryani person, but between the mutton and chicken this time round, the mutton was the much better one with the fork tender meat and none of the gaminess, which makes it such a wonderful pairing with the curry gravy that is doused generously on top of it. At $6 for a single portion, you will get a mountain of briyani rice with a hardboiled egg, achar, poppadum and a bowl of dhal.

The guy serving would scoop rice and place meat on it in alternate layers.

When I packed it home, I would smell its heady aroma after opening from the variety of spices, plus garlic, yogurt, onions, cashew nuts, and ghee.

Compared to most other briyani I had, I noted that the yellow-orange grains were more evenly coloured, and quite gentle in terms of spice level.

Get the fried chicken. It’s deliciously juicy.

The Briyani tasted good but not exceptionally special. Tbh I think what stood out for me was the huge pack of pappadom they included.

This is Mutton Briyani from Allauddin’s Briyani Pte Ltd. Allaudin’s Briyani Pte Ltd in Tekka Centre has been selling briyani since the 1950s, they are truly the “briyani specialists”. http://hungryghost.sg/allauddins-briyani-pte-ltd/

Was yearning for some Nasi Briiiiiiiyani for lunch! So many Briyani stores at Tekka Centre but we chose to go with Allauddin’s! Whoo, we love the strong spices in this Indian dish and the spiciness from the curry. There’s also pickled cucumbers at the side to give a different flavor profile to the rice and curry! #burpple
