It was raining heavily and I was kinda looking forward to something warm. Jjampong therefore made perfect sense as it is red hot spicy and comforting in this wet weather.

Annyeong Chicken is more famous for their tornado fried rice and jjajangmyeon but I was really craving for some jjampong. Their jjampong was just okay. I felt that their soup was way too mild for my liking and there was not much ingredients in there.

I will be back to try their signature dishes but their jjampong is a μ•„λ‹ˆμš” for me.

We loved the ginseng soup! Very comforting, especially on a cold rainy day. Seafood pancake ($12) was super good too!

Will skip the fried chicken next time as the batter is quite thick for our liking

Ordered the Tornado Seafood Fried Rice ($6) and the egg was swirl on top and moist. The bottom of the fried rice is just normal fried rice which doesn't stand out.

Order their Jjam Ppong ($7) which is basically like seafood army stew. At a coffeeshop price of this quality, I can't complain

How the mighty have fallen. The queues were once legendary, up to 2 hours. Today at 11.15, I was the first customer even though they started at 11am. By the time I left the kopitiam, they chalked up another 8 customers. Never a queue.

The Tornado Fried Rice tasted super. At the first bite a strong taste of butter came through immediately. Bits of shrimp, calamari, onions further accentuated the taste. The fried chicken (ordered 3 piece chicken wing, soy garlic flavour) was very crispy and savoury sweet. The pieces of batter was falling off everywhere as I bit into the chicken wing. Meat inside was tender and juicy.

So why the drop in business even though the food tasted good? I believe it could be because of one of the following reasons: 1) Sullen attitude of lady boss. 2) Perpetual long queues turns off the customers 3) They favoured delivery orders. Or maybe all of the above.

For me it’s the first reason. Stood at the stall for one full minute without anyone bothering to attend to me. When I finally caught the attention of the lady boss, I asked if the stall was open for business. She told me to look at the signboard. If the light behind the signboard is on, it means they are open for business. How rude.

Never coming back because of that. But I will miss their fried rice.

Visited a new Korean stall, Annyeong Chicken, near West Coast Market Square. Annyeong Chicken is opened by a Korean chef with 15 years of cooking experience. I was tempted to order and try everything on their menu but I don't have the stomach for that. In the end, I ordered a Haemul Pajeon (Seafood Pancake), Budae Jjigae (Army Stew Noodles) and Jajang Myeon (Noodles in black bean sauce).

βœ“ Haemul Pajeon (Seafood Pancake) is delicious! VERY fresh and generous amount of seafood in the hot crispy pancake. I can taste the squid, prawns and scallions in every bite. Really like the natural sweetness of the seafood and the tangy dipping sauce for their pancake is a great combination!

βœ“ Jajang Myeon (Noodles in black bean sauce) is not bad. The black bean sauce is made with chunjang, diced meat, veg and caramelised onions. Flavourful but I wished the flavour to be bolder.

βœ“ Budae Jjigae (Army Stew Noodles) was not bad too. Ramyeon was cooked just right, and the stew wasn't too spicy, and a good flavour. There were ham, luncheon meat, baked beans, zucchini, scallions, pretty much an expected taste of an army stew but in a smaller portion.

All in all, it was a decent authentic Korean meal with friendly service!
