Old-school British Hainanese rendition.
.
The boneless basa catfish is beautifully crumb battered, crunching lightly to reveal the soft moist flaky fish within, carrying mild sweet savoury flavour.
.
Hot crinkle cut potato chips, fluffy and crisp with starchy salty savoury flavour. Warm soft baked beans in tomato sauce with bright vegetal earthy sweet savoury notes.
.
Fresh juicy cucumber with vegetal sweet flavour. Nicely toasted bun and smooth butter, with bready sweet buttery salty flavour.

The medium thick boneless chicken chop is nicely grilled, with the skin slightly crisp, and the chicken meat springy and tender.
.
The gravy really lifts this, bold with meaty salty savoury flavour that makes you want to go back for more.
.
Accompanied by fresh juicy cucumbers with vegetal sweet notes, warm soft baked beans in tomato sauce bright with vegetal earthy sweet sour flavour, and a fluffy soft warm bread with bready sweet toasty notes that goes so well with creamy butter.
.
The fluffy potato crinkle chips have addictive starchy salty sweet flavour, shiok.

Now helmed by the 2nd-generation owners (with help from the 3rd), this distinctly old-school stall has been serving delicious meals for over 35 years.
.
Their beef steaks are available in 2 cuts - the more affordable sirloin with a firm chew, or the premium NZ angus ribeye which is more tender. Perfectly grilled, I like that their medium-rare doneness is spot on.
.
Both served with the tasty brown gravy, combining for bold meaty savoury salty flavour. There's an option for black pepper sauce for an additional SGD $0.50 as well, which some prefer.
.
The old-school warm bun is crisp outside, fluffy inside, and paired with creamy butter, has a pleasant smoky bready buttery sweet flavour. The medium-cut English crinkle chips are nicely starchy salty in taste, with a crisp fluffy texture.
.
Completed with fresh juicy cucumbers and tomatoes with bright vegetal sweet flavour, and soft baked beans in a tomato sauce with earthy vegetal sweet savoury notes.

Old school western food.

Additional 50cents to change to black pepper sauce, no regrets, the sauce was thick and flavourful

The chicken chop also quite big, definitely bigger than those western food sprouting around Singapore.

Comes with fries, baked beans & bun.

Apollo is an old school Western food stall helmed by 2nd generation hawkers.

Their chicken chop is well grilled to perfect and remains both tender and juicy. I love their crinkle cut fries which are crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. You know you are in for a treat when their warm toasted buns come with Lurpak or Payson Breton butters (i.e. more atas and expensive. Their mushroom sauce is a little thin and watery though.

Only complaint is that they serve baked beans and not coleslaw!

Tasty & affordable old school style chicken chop can be found here. The chicken is tender and well char-grilled, together with typical fries, beans and bread. Although it’s not ideally big portion, i have no complaints for the price tag of $5.50.
