Pen down this neighbourhood joint in Damansara Jaya for pocket-friendly bowls of comforting pho on rainy days. The hearty Vietnamese Beef Stew Noodles (RM9) with silky rice noodles is stellar and "full of beef brisket flavour including the sweetness of red onions and fragrance of Chinese Five-Spice", according to Burppler Nicholas Ng. Also good is the classic Vietnamese Beef Noodles (from RM8.50) with tender slices of beef. To share, order the crispy Vietnamese Crispy Spring Rolls (from RM1.50) and sweet-savoury Vietnamese BBQ Pork Skewers (from RM3).

For delicious Vietnamese fare with a friend, head to this DJ favourite. To start, the Fresh Spring Rolls (RM6.50 for two) with fresh prawns and veggies and a sweet-spicy chilli dip is excellent. For the main event, you can't go wrong with the Beef Noodles (RM9.50) with light yet savoury beef broth and tender beef slices – everything you crave on a rainy day. Don't leave without getting the Creme Caramel (RM4), which comes with either caramel sauce or concentrated Vietnamese coffee. Go with the latter for a spot-on bittersweet flavour.

The chicken was so succulent, literally falling off the bone. The sauce, generously ladled onto the rice, was spiced beautifully. With a fried egg, and some salad on the side, it’s a complete meal.

This is a pretty simple dish, consisting of rice noodles in a fragrant yet subtle broth, topped with shredded chicken, a prawn, fish balls and some iceberg lettuce. I don’t recall the exact price, but it’s definitely below RM15.

I’ve been coming here for ages and the food just keeps getting better and better. On sad and sick days, I always turn to this comforting bowl of beef noodles.

Nem nướng is a grilled Vietnamese sausage made from pork seasoned with minced pork, garlic, fish and sauce.

The nem nướng had an intense sweet flavour to it, with punches of pungent garlic. The higher fat to meat ratio makes the skewer extra juicy with bite bursting in your mouth.

Rm1.50 per piece

Ordered 4 pieces of this to share and it was decent, crispy and fresh.

Personally prefer the spring rolls that aren't fried over these, just a matter of preference.

Rm3/stick

A minimum of 2 skewers have to be ordered to enjoy this tasty treat. Make sure to have it when it is still hot but be careful! I find that once it cools down it becomes too hard and too chewy.

Pho Bo Đặc Biệt is a type of noodle which in made from flat rice noodles, served with beef flank, brisket, steak, and beef balls, but what makes it Đặc Biệt (special) is the inclusion of offals such as tendon and honeycomb tripe. This is all cooked in a fragrant broth and served with a side of culantro, beansprouts, lime and mint, with sriracha and hoisin sauce as condiments.

The pho was nice and silky, but what really makes a pho is the broth. This broth had the right sweet and savoury flavour, light and delicate. There was a pronounced pepper flavour from the stock with hints of star anise which actually complemented the broth. The mix of fresh honeycomb tripe made the trip thorough.

Vietnamese beef stew noodles is a Chinese influenced type of beef flat rice noodle made with braised beef brisket, carrots, daikon and garnished with Vietnamese herbs like Vietnamese mint and red onion.

The dish feels like a combination of the phở and Chinese beef brisket noodles (ngau laam meen, 牛腩麵).

The noodle used was phở noodles, which were light. The daikon and carrot were tender, and great as sides to the soup. What stood out the most was the fragrant soup stock, which was full of beef brisket flavour, including the sweetness of red onion and fragrance of Chinese five spice. The beef itself melts in your mouth as you bite it, from the long periods for cooking. A must try for beef brisket lovers.

If it's the warming effects of a really good pho you're seeking, come to Ara Vietnamese Noodles and bring your partner with you. Run by Malaysian Andrew Goh and his Vietnamese wife Ah Yim, the no frills restaurant serves a superb bowl of Special Vietnamese Beef Pho (RM12.50). Beef balls, beef slices, tripe and all swim in the piping-hot clear broth alongside flat rice noodles, and it is irresisitibly fragrant and delicious when had with the chili sauce on the side. Also give the Creme Caramel (RM4) with a Vietnamese twist a try. Instead of the usual caramel sauce, the dessert is drizzled with concentrated Vietnamese coffee that gives it an intense bittersweet element.

Gotta give this double 'A's | Authentic and Affordable 😋 Wide selection of food - Pho (soup noodles), Bun (dry noodles with dipping sauce), Vietnamese spring rolls (fried/steamed), rice with grilled meat marinated with lemongrass, the drip coffee, creme brûlée, etc.
Authentic: The wife of the owner is Vietnamese ☺️
Affordable: Where else can you get a main and a drip coffee below RM15 in an air conditioned shop?
