The Yuzu Cruffin ($5.50) was naturally my top choice as I love cruffins! The perfect combination of a croissant in a muffin shape gives you the layers you enjoy from a buttery croissant in a convenient shape of a muffin. Each layer was filled with yuzu jam & topped with pistachio bits, giving you that nutty crunch.

Next, the Yuzu Royal Milk Tea Loaf ($5.80) came in gorgeous rolls which I felt that I wouldn't be able to finish, but alas, the greedy side of me was triumphant 😂 the rolls were soft & fluffy, with bits of yuzu in it, giving you that tangy burst of surprise as you bite into it.

The classic Karuizawa Yuzu Summer ($3.50) was a lighter alternative which could be eaten by itself, or paired with slices of creamy avocado. The subtle hint of yuzu added a nice aroma & tanginess to each bite without overpowering the ingredients that we topped it with.

Lastly, the Yuzu Cream Cheese Danish ($5.00) was the savoury option of the lot with cream cheese. While it seemed puzzling, the flavours balanced out pretty well after giving it a light toast in the oven. The Yuzu jam that sat on top helped to cut through the creaminess.

Started my day right with Asanoya’s Matcha Series - some old favourites and a couple of new additions!

Matcha Cruffin ($5.50) - A more than decent rendition, the flaky exterior (after a quick pop in the toaster) paired wonderfully with the earthy-sweet matcha custard filling.

Matcha Choux Puff ($6.00/ 4 pcs) - Tender one-bite dessert, the puffs were real light. The matcha azuki filling was pleasantly molten too. A tad sweet overall but a great, foolproof flavour combination.

Green Tea Mochi with White Chocolate filling ($4.80/ 2 pcs) - A real chewy number, the texture was fun though the matcha flavour was slightly more muted in comparison to the other pastries. Thus, the bits of white chocolate found in the airy interior which tasted a little caramel-like were a welcomed surprise.

Matcha Turtle Pan ($3.00) - Essentially an Asian-style milk bun with a crisp green tea flavoured biscuit crust shaped into a cute baby turtle - can’t go wrong with that.

Matcha Azuki Croissant ($3.80) - My favourite of the lot! Dusted with snow powder and studded with almonds, the buttery croissant held a really nice nuttiness and earthiness from the matcha-coated exterior and red bean filling. The filling was not too sweet and the pastry itself was pretty substantial.

Karuizawa Matcha ($3.20) - Soft and fluffy on the inside, and crusty on the sides, the slice had great textures. Infused with white chocolate chip, the matcha flavour was distinct, fragrant and I liked that it was subtly sweetened.

This is a soft bread with a thick chewy crust, studded with blueberries. I enjoyed the bread, though I prefer the green tea one more.

This is my favourite item from Asanoya and I eat it every 1-2 weeks. The bread, raisins, chocolate bite and custard mix together for a delicious treat, and when heated up it gives me a warm hug in my belly. There is also a chocolate bread pudding which is sweeter and more decadent, and just as delicious.

This is a soft and fluffy bread with a nice, thick, chewy, slightly burnt (in a good way) crust. The matcha taste is subtle but fragrant, and I liked how the white chocolate isn’t in chunks but is instead mixed into the dough, so the taste is again subtle instead of being overly sweet.

My only gripe with this is the size. It’s too huge for breakfast, but half a slice is too small. It’s a very minor issue but it’s because of the size that I have not bought this for 3 years despite loving it and passing by the store every day.
