Finally caught this stall open. I must admit it's kinda underwhelming, since it's just caifan. Curry chicken, cabbage and beancurd skin dumplings. The most Peranakan element was the curry, which was very coconutty and delicious. Fyi the meat was an entire leg - unfortunately it wasn't cooked well. Dumplings were surprisingly good.

They sell a lot of curry, chicken curry to be exact. People before me (& after me) order chicken curry as a standard. Curry packs a spicy punch, & smells fragrant with hints of kafir lime leaves. I usually complete my order with the fried chicken, long beans, egg omelette & of course the sambal balacan chili! Shiok!


All that for $4.50

I saw this on toggle’s cheap cheap vs atas and at once was intrigued by how peranakan food can exist in the Hawker space.

I mean.. ALL THAT WORK + the unending list of ingredients involved and 🙌🏻🙌🏻 hands in the air, cos it all SHONE THROUGH.

I felt so humbled for slighting this sloppy looking plate for the brief second. The veggie curry really was LEMAK. It was a tad too salty on its own but that stubborn coconut and mix of spice just won’t leave your mouth without assaulting your tastebuds. The onions/gingers in the veggie rempah were like the greatest showman.

Pungently good and it wasn’t like they used the same rempah in every dish. Cos the chicken curry tasted different than the veggie curry. The chicken curry was a lot more dilute but that piece of chicken leg as you can see is falling apart soft.

Don’t leave without having the omelette! Super thick, oily, fluffy, fragrant ❤️

The Peranakan dishes at this cai fan stall makes Nonya food affordable, and our Burpple Tastemakers are loving both the prices as well as the variety. Burpple Tastemaker Sheryl Lyx topped her plate of rice with fried chicken, chap chye (Nonya stewed veggies) and stir-fried long beans, all for $4! Soft and sweet, the chap chye is proof of its long stewing hours, while the chicken is crisp on the outside and tender on the inside, like a good fried chicken should be. What really sets it apart though is the turmeric-laced marinade, which adds a whole level of flavour and complexity to the meat. Ask for a heaping spoonful of the amazing sambal belachan on the side.

$4 for this HUGE plate of food. That’s insane. On the plate we had a fried chicken, chap chye and long beans. Every dish was generous and well cooked, especially the chap chye which was so soft and sweet. It must have been stewed for hours! We also loved the fried chicken which was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Do not forget about the SUPER TOKGONG CHILLI that complements every dish so well. #BurppleChinatown


The curry is creamy, aromatic and delicious.
