* This place has closed :( Please try somewhere else. * Babette – Restaurant & Bar, the first casual French-Japanese resto-bar along Tyrwhitt Road, is set to jazz up the Jalan Besar stretch with its offering of urban industrial swank. Inspired by the 1980s film “Babette’s Feast” – a Danish film about how a good chef can transform a dinner into a love affair – the 64-seater restaurant puts a spotlight on simple and honest food. The menu draws inspiration from familiar flavours in comfort dishes, but often with a tongue-in-cheek ‘Babette twist’. And while most of the dishes are prepared using classic French techniques, Japanese ingredients are also a mainstay feature in the main courses as well. Decked with custom-made wooden furniture pieces and concrete floors juxtaposed with red brick walls, Babette is set to be an unpretentious but hip dining and drinking spot where the selection of beers, wines, and cocktails also play an equal focus. As food lovers who also enjoy kicking back over a mug of beer, the team has spent a lot of time ensuring the reinvented beer bites and French-Japanese main courses tickle both the palate and the imagination.

The more decent of the two dishes we tried after a run! Would say it's pretty value for money given the entertainer but wouldn't come back here again, food is so-so & mehhhhhh.

In frame is the Duck & Waffle $25, the meat for the duck leg confit was strangely red. And waffle texture was as crispy a biscuit. 😬

Matcha lava cake ($12.9) with 🍦 and azuki beans :) ! Piping hot matcha flowing out of the 🎂 as you cut it open. Have a 👄 of 🍦 while you're at it! 😋

I had the steak and foie gras donburi ($28) which looked better than it tasted. I asked for medium rare but it was closer to medium well! It looks pink on this side of the photo but on the other side, the beef has lost its pink color. Due to it being overdone it was tough and chewy. The foie gras and rice were good though. Used the entertainer app, so I didn't feel too bad about having a lackluster dish. Otherwise, not worth the $28++ price tag.

This hit the table with a punch of vibrant colour but the same can't be said about the impact it made on my tastebuds. Not so fresh cubes of salmon, tuna and scallop interspersed with pickled vegetables and tamago atop rather bland rice.

Satisfyingly thick and tasty slices of pink in the middle sirloin steak, marred only by a slight gristliness. The foie wasn't the most creamy and could have been seared for longer to bring out more caramelization, but was decently sized for the price. What was lacking was the Babette sauce mentioned in the menu and the whole proceedings left me rather high and dry(emphasis on the dry).
