Spicy Beef Brisket Noodles Set ($13.80)

Newly opened Ba Bu Xiao Mi at the basement of Tanjong Pagar Centre is tucked away at a corner and has a smaller lunchtime crowd. Perfect if you are really famished and looking for a quick fix. Food was served promptly, service was good and prices are definitely affordable.

The spicy beef brisket noodles will call out to mala lovers as the soup definitely packed that numbing heat. The portion was also generous with all those tender and flavourful beef brisket. In addition to the noodles, i also picked the cold fungus salad for my side dish and it did a great job working up the appetite! The drink deserves mention as it wasn’t just the usual cordial selections. I picked the Black Mediar and Chrysanthemum Tea, pretty to look at and tasted better than typical chrysanthemum! Overall super value for money at that price point.

Located beside Souperstar in Tanjong Pagar Centre, this Yunnan-style noodle and rice shop is the place to go when you're craving a big hit of punchy flavours for lunch. The affordable lunch sets each come with a drink and a cold side dish — we like that options are beyond the predictable, with choices like black medlar and chrysanthemum tea for drinks and bittergourd salad and marinated black fungus for sides. Try the Spicy Beef Brisket Mixian ($13.80, Set B), which sees silky smooth noodles bathed in a feisty broth. The Sichuan Mala Beef Tender Rice ($12.80, Set A) sees lightly spiced tender beef slices that are delicious and spot-on in terms of mala flavour, but Burppler Dex Neo wishes they can be more generous with the meat and gravy.

Set A (lunch) has a wider range of cheaper bowls to choose from and this mala bowl caught our attention.

Slightly hot, with a nice balance of the mala spices, the tender beef slices and onions was shiok with the short grain rice. It almost felt like a spicy Japanese rice bowl! Only qualm is that the amount of beef was quite little (even more gravy to eat with the rice would have been great).

Choose from a range of cold sides like spinach salad, bittergourd salad, peanuts or bamboo shoots. We got the cold black fungus and beancurd skins, both of which we enjoyed but preferred the black fungus. Both were marinated in the same spicy, mala-ish way but the fungus had a saltier kick to it which made it way more appetizing. 😛

Located beside Souperstar, this new Yunnan-style noodle/rice shop combines some flavours from Sichuan for tasty, tasty bowls packed with flavour.

For lunch, they have value-for-money sets that come with a drink and a cold side dish.

Ordered this bowl of spicy noodles and man, did it pack a kick! But somehow it was still quite easy to slurp down. The noodles was silky smooth too but the beef brisket could be more consistent (some were really tender while others was chewy). 🍜

Their drinks are really interesting too. Behind is the Black Medlar & Chrysanthemum Tea which was refreshing and not too sweet – perfect for cutting through the heat.
