when we step into @bakalakigreektaverna. Simple elegant with earthy tones and patterned fabrics, it reflects the easy-going Greek feeling!

Start off on a great note as we dig into the platter of dips and freshly baked pitas. Moved on to Htapodi aka Grilled Octopus ($32.90). Cooked with oregano and Extra Virgin Olive Oil, we can’t get enough of this charred yet tender octopus.

Another dish, Moussaka ($25.90) comes at the strong recommendation of my friends. Traditional baked casserole of beef minced meat, eggplant, potato & béchamel sauce, just look how creamy good it is.

One of the best versions of grilled Octopus I have had yet. A must get when at this establishment, the umami of this tender and succulent piece of meat is amplified with the charred surface of the Octopus. A crowd pleaser that would satisfy one's tastebuds.

Beef was quite tough while pita bread and tzaitziki had nothing to shout about. Also got the taramosalata which is white cod roe spread, a bit too salty for my liking and something I wouldn’t go for again personally.

Literally and figuratively greek to me, this was simply fried feta with sesame seeds and honey. A little overpriced if you ask me, since a slab of this cheese goes for $5 at the nearby foodie's market place. But still fun to have as a side if shared amongst at least 3 people.

Who’s a fan of Greek food here? I’m no expert in Greek food but I can say that I really like Bakalaki. It’s fresh, hearty and flavourful.

A Greek dish that’s popular is Moussaka, a baked casserole of sliced aubergine (eggplant), sliced potatoes, minced beef topped with Bechamel sauce. It has a very rich, meaty homemade feel when you eat this dish. And please don’t compare it to lasagne. They’re entirely different.

They’re open for takeaway/ delivery during this CB period. So do check them out if you wanna have Greek/ Mediterranean food at home.

At every Greek restaurant, it’s typical for people to order octopus. I have a love-hate relationship with this eight legged animal as it can be rather rubbery and tough if not done well. But this was amazing. The tentacles were fresh and nicely grilled (not too burnt) where it was soft and slightly chewy when you bite into it. Condiments are very simple. It’s just a wedge of lemon, oregano and extra virgin olive oil. This way you can really tell if the seafood is really fresh.
