This is the only place I know of that bakes Kouign Amann. They have two types- the traditional Brittany type and their own Brera Kouign Amann (BKA). I bought the former and at $4.80 a pop, not cheap. The pleasant smell of French Butter came through with every bite of crusty dough which is probably why it is so expensive. But it goes so well with espresso coffee.

Will come back soon to try their various types of cruffins. Can’t wait.

Imagine my delight when I walked into the bakery at 9am, to find no sight of a crazy queue! Yay, no one to fight with for the trolleys of freshly baked cruffins that were still piping warm and left on the troller to cool! I got 1 of each flavour that I had been wanting to try. Love the lemon curd - fluffy croissant layers that were light - and then surprises with a strong tangy pang. Salted caramel lovers would love the salted caramel and hazelnut version too (no salty desserts/ pastries for me!) Those with sophisticated taste would find the matcha rich and delectable while kids would love the peanut butter jelly cruffin!

So I’ll begin my BREAD series. I’ll dedicate my first post for this series to panettone - an Italian bread that’s eaten during Christmas. It’s a tall, dome shaped bread that’s speckled with dried fruit and candied citrus peel. A good panettone should be super, duper light, soft and fluffy just like how @bakerybrera does it.

A 500g panettone set me aside an astounding $42. Probably the most expensive bread that I’ve ever paid in my life but Christmas is only once a year. So why not?

Some history about panettone. Originating from Milan in the 15th century, the version we are familiar with became popular in the early 20th century by Angelo Motta. It’s now eaten by Italians all around the world during the holiday season.

It may not be the most well-known bread in Singapore although you can find packaged ones at NTUC or Cold Storage all these years. It’s not exactly affordable too when it’s available.

P.S. Was hoping to get their stollen but it was sold out by the time I went so settled for this instead.

Think I prefer kouign amann in this shape than the typical round one which I find to be usually too sweet and hard (I have not tried BB’s round version though)

This was crispy outside, fluffy inside and not too sweet. This has to be my fav pastry from them (I have tried their cruffins, ham cheese & choc croissant). Not as good as le matin’s😛 but still satisfying nonetheless.

Will buy again.

Matcha paste, matcha marzipan, candied fruits, nuts.

Expensive and way too sweet. Matcha filling was sweet and did not taste very matcha. The candied fruits and sugary bits just made this even sweeter.

Could only manage 2 bites.
