Available from 7am to 11am on weekdays, this dish is all about runny-yolked poached eggs and a tangy-sweet Tuscan-style tomato stew beefed up by some Fior di Latte (a semi-soft mozzarella-like fresh cheese).
An easy-to-love breakfast item, it is served with a thick slice of crusty bread lashed with olive oil (which comes in very handy in mopping the pan clean 😋).
It sounds like I am slightly obsessed with Buca here in Toronto but when I booked our AirBnB, I swear I wasn’t aware Bar Buca, an all-day casual spot by the same company, was a mere five-minute walk away. But since it opens at 7am on weekdays, we popped in there for breakfast yesterday morning.
The “Strapazzate”, a pulled omelette of mixed farm eggs (I think it’s chicken and duck’s) crowned with big dollops of burrata cheese was the first thing on the menu to catch my eye. Well, the reality was even more gorgeous and delicious than I dared expect. Cooked to an astounding texture, being both silky yet slightly stringy at the same time, the eggs had the most luxurious mouthfeel. Coupled with the warm, crusty bread, it made for a filling meal.
There was the option to add on freshly shaved black truffle for $7 more but I demurred as I wanted to taste the original as it is.
