We got the usual suspects of the cream puff, cuppachino and the ice cream with a shot of something. Today I chose the hojicha. It has a strong hojicha taste. It's nice but I think I still prefer the espresso shot. The cream puff is crispy and nice as usual. Good to share after a nice lunch.

Our favourite dish was definitely their cream puff.

This unassuming dessert pastry is filled with a rich and luscious Hokkaido Biei jersey milk custard cream that was just so delicious.

Order it even if you have no space for desserts because that's what we did and were literally licking the plate clean of the amazing custard cream!

@baristartcoffee_sg is a cafe which focuses on Hokkaido dairy in all of its food and beverage options. @jooeunchung and I started off lunch with their Ohihiro butadon and tonkatsu sando.

Ohihiro is a city in Hokkaido which is famous for its pork glazed with a special sauce over rice. We loved Baristart's version which tender and juicy grilled kurobuta pork belly glazed with their homemade teriyaki sauce over Hokkaido Nanatsuboshi rice and topped with mizuna, green onion and a sprinkle of shichimi togarashi.

Baristart's katsu sando is a Breaded pork cutlet sandwich with soft white bread,
tonkatsu sauce, mustard butter, and served with fries and gherkins. I wasn't a big fan of this as the cut of pork used was on the tougher side and the fats were too chewy for my liking.

We were still feeling peckish as the portions were rather small and got an extra main. Their Hokkaido carbonara featured spaghetti with Hokkaido rich milk, pork bacon,
onsen tamago, black pepper and parmigiano. For those who like their (non-traditonal) carbonara extra rich and creamy without being overbearing, this is definitely the place to go. A word of warning though --- they are really generous when it comes to portions for this dish!

2 years after I’ve tried this and @baristartcoffee_sg ‘s cream puff still never fails to amaze me – that cookie crust, crisp to the bite; the luscious, creamy filling (it became a tad sweeter from what I remembered though) really hits the spot. This is REALLY worth every cent!

Came here for the pastas, coffee and cream puff, and the puff won the photo spot hands down 😂 the cream was a rich, cold, not-too-sweet custard cream filling that had a consistency somewhere between thick custard and melted ice cream. The puff was a well-baked choux pastry with a crunchy shell and chewy insides that grounded the richness of the cream. This puff was about 1.5x the size of my fist and goes for $6, worth it for the quality imo.

Shoutout to great service from the lady waitress in the black dragon shirt near the kitchen who shared with us that we could pre-order our cream puffs since we were dining in. So different from the bochup attitude from the pink ponytail guy waiter at the register who turned customers away saying “puffs sold out” without letting them know that they were baking new batches. Why ah??

This reminds me of a cross of between chateraise and beard papa. What’s unique is the exterior which has crumbs and nuts that’s pretty tasty
