One last hurrah, before they shut this outlet.
Bookmarked to try this for quite sometime. Finally got chance to eat this.
Normal wanton mee is $4, truffle wanton mee is $7.
Basically, truffle wanton mee looks like it is prepared the same way, just that they spray a bit of truffle oil onto the wanton mee.
Still can't wrap my head around how a few sprays of truffle oil justifies the additional $3.
Overall quite a average bowl of wanton noodles, with only a slight hint of truffle taste.
I must be putting too much expectation for their truffle wanton noodle. Because the truffle wasn’t strong enough and the noodles had some alkaline taste.
Wasn’t impressed with their char siew and wanton either. For a big portion it cost you $8.50.
In a recent tour around the north-east of Singapore, my friends and I came across Bee Kee Wonton Mee which serves an interesting and their highly rated Truffle Wonton Mee ($9).
The aroma of the truffle oil drizzled on the dish were quite strong and gave a new dimension of flavour to the beautifully done char siew. The noodles on the other hand, were inedible. Not sure if it was a one-off, but the alkali was so strong, so bitter that I wondered if I actually just ingested some industrial soap. 🤢
Have you been there recently? Was it a similar experience, or was I just unlucky? 😭 I don’t normally call out dishes like that, but I’m quite scarred from this tbh.
At least a few years since I ate this. I can report their standards have indeed plummeted. Smelled of truffle but tasted of no truffle. Noodles, although a rare type, were damn alkaline. Char siew looked great, but tasted normal and had significant parts couldn't be chewed. So I'll say this: the stallholders always had bad attitude, but now they have no right to.
It was alright, pretty steep price I Guess bc of truffle oil haha but the char siew (ok I think there may be a few outlets but I went to the one at Lorong Lew Liam) was kinda tough n tbh I’ve had better :’)
