Benbino

Though children's cafe Benbino has much to work on (particularly in its service quality), it has still managed to become a hero for parents near the Publika area. Space is limited, so come early over the weekend or make it a special weekday treat. Seats are arranged along the playground so you can keep a watchful eye on your kid while sipping on an Iced Latte (RM12). Meant to cater to tiny tots, most of the adorably-named dishes are portioned down. On a breezy day, the little ones will love the A-B-Chicken Soup (RM10), alphabet macaroni in a creamy chicken soup. If not, get the Fried Chicken Tenders (RM12), popular with the kids and easy to gobble up between playtime. When they've had enough of the soothing hammock swing and the mini slide, a glass of Green Apple Juice (RM12) should suffice to refresh, or perhaps a yummy Soft Served Iced Chocolate (RM15).

If I were a parent, I'd love Benbino. That is, if their coffee machine hadn't broken down and if it wasn't a weekend afternoon — apparently when parents all over KL huddle here. Limited space and somewhat lacklustre service aside, the playground-cum-cafe is a real hit.

Foodwise, the Flourless Orange Cake (RM12) impresses with a mild zest and grated coconut crunch. The Soft Served Ice Chocolate (RM15), sporting a blindingly shiny vanilla soft serve on top, is great for both kids and adults. Nothing goes overboard with sweetness, which is a good thing — the little ones won't need the extra sugar to go bonkers on the hammock swing or start a beanbag fight.
