These KUEH Ko Swee are simply SWEE la! π This nonya delicacy has the kind of texture I adore β a little firm, a little mochi-like, a little sticky, a little crunchy (from the grated coconut).πππ The ones from Folklore has been crowned by many as the best Kueh Ko Swee in Singapore π, but since Beach Road is a bit far, I guess Bengawan Solo offers a cheaper & more readily available alternative.π€£
.
Good quality of Gula Melaka is paramount as it is probably the only dominant flavour in these cubes. β While I was pleased with the level of sweetness, somehow these were not as tasty as I remembered them to be. π€They were somewhat lacking in the toffee-like caramel fragrance that is iconic of gula melaka, perhaps masked by the lye water? π The grated coconut that coats the cubes like a layer of snow compensated by adding a good crunch & coconutty pandan fragrance. π
.
Taking into consideration its price point ($2.10 for 6pcs), I think this is still a decent eat. ππ» At least it satisfied my cravings for some nonya sweet treats! π·
