Inspired by a yakitori-ya (traditional small grilling stalls) in Osaka, Bincho is an all-in-one unique dining concept by Unlisted Collection showcasing a neat mix of Singapore’s past, present and future. Transformed from a 70-year old traditional kopitiam (coffee shop), highlights from Bincho include 1) the old school mee pok stall, the classic coffee & toast, evergreen marble tables, beloved rickety wooden chairs; 2) a modern open-concept yakitori bar with hues of copper headed by the affable Chef Asai Masashi; and 3) a bar featuring progressive and playful Japanese-inspired cocktails as well as an extensive Japanese whisky, sake and shochu list

We went as a party of 4 adults and 2 children and had a selection of yakitori (heart, liver, backbone, backside and thigh), a small bowl of tsukune don for the toddler, as well as the horse mackerel, short rib, pork belly and grilled veg with lobster potato salad. The food was great! We over ordered slightly but if you're really hungry it shouldnt be a problem. With 2 drinks, the bill came up to around 400 which was a little steep.

Kopitiam by day, snazzy omakase bar by night— locate this hidden joint for great yakitori and tapas plates (hint: the ‘entrance’ can be found at the back of the restaurant, near the carpark, under the aircon vent). If you're lucky, the Grilled Seasonal Vegetable Platter with bamboo shoot, radish, yam and boiled broad bean (soramame), served with housemade miso sauce, may be in season. f you're in the mood to indulge, go for the full works with the Bincho Tasting Set (from $180). Alternatively, the Bincho Express Set (from $68) will suffice. Be sure to accompany your meal with a glass of Japanese whisky or sake from their extensive collection.

Review of the new outlet at Dempsey. Hard to find, as it is tucked behind the Min Jian @ Dempsey restaurant, but by no means is Binsho a bin for the food show at Min Jiang! Compared to the original at Tiong Bahru, this branch has more cooked dishes. We had the uni shabu shabu - extremely yummy! The yakitori dishes are delish, more ‘refined’ than at other superior yakitori places. Great choices of Japanese whiskey and sake. Cocktails are also unusual, although the soursop margarita is a bit too sweet. Attentive, personal service. The downsides? It is pricey - unless you stick to the lunch sets, you would end up paying $130 a head. The day we visited, the aircon was not working well so it was kind of uncomfortable.
