This is my first visit to Bizen, an Okayama Wagyu steakhouse in Funan Mall. Decision paralysis is real when there are 20 different prime-cuts, butcher-cuts and adventure-cuts of A3 grade Wagyu beef to choose from😱 Thankfully, the staff helped me to narrow down the options to Flap, Plate and Chuck Short Rib when I said I wanted a fattier cut.

I ended up choosing Flap ($27.50 for 150g) which comes with 2 sides of my choice: Wakame Udon and Sautéed Trio Mushroom. There is no need for any sauce as the beef is tender, juicy and packed with flavour. The sides that I chose are quite light, which is a great match with the steak. Although the steak is really quite small, it turned out to be sufficient as the high fat content would have render it jelak if it was any bigger.

Overall, this is a little pricey but the taste is on point - a pretty good choice for frills-free Wagyu!

At BIZEN Okayama Wagyu Steakhouse, you can choose from 20 A3 premium wagyu cuts especially sourced from cattle farmers in Okayama prefecture in Japan. The steaks are prepared and served in techniques they are best suited for.

The Sharing Platter ($49.90) comes with a premium knuckle beef, chicken katsu, 2 side dishes of choice, chawanmushi, sake-steamed clama and 2 iced green tea. The knuckle steak was perfectly cooked to our choice of medium-rare with a nice char. Though it retained its juiciness, it was slightly tough and the taste was not so memorable. It was lacking the flavour of a mixture of fat and beefy unami-ness. I think perhaps it's the choice of cut as I usually go for ribeye.

Denver Petite (150g) medium doneness.
Meat was juicy and not too fat. 👍🏻

Ok food, agonisingly slow service.

Was not impressed by the food and service here previously and ordering takeaway from them is not much better.

The beef was alright but wasn't "shabu shabu" as described -- it was actually composed of (admittedly tender) chunks of beef instead of the usual strips found in shabu shabu. Quite a lot of it was also onion filler.

What really made this experience sour was how atrociously slow although 3/4 of the floor was waiting for their food and a queue was forming outside. I had to wait more than 20 mins to takeaway -- at the end, I just went in and helped the oblivious waitress pack my food.

Tender and flavourful without sauce. A good option for anyone on keto
