Located inside "Food Loft" (which looks like a cross between a food court and a kopitiam) at Blk 217 Bedok North is a stall called "Tom Yum Koong". The moment I overheard the young lady who was taking the orders, speak in Thai to the older couple doing the cooking, I was game to try their food. This was what I ordered for the two of us: Tom Yam ($12 for a small), Panang Pork (comes with rice for $6), Fishcake (3 pieces for $6) and Thai Style Kang Kong ($4) plus two portions of plain rice. Below is what I thought of the dishes...
Tom Yam: Loved that it came in a silver pot with a flame beneath to keep it steaming hot throughout our meal. There was quite a lot of sliced dory fish, small prawns (with tails on) and some squid. Taste-wise, it was punchy with a strong sour note but lacked an accompanying intensity in terms of spiciness. Those who can't take food that's too spicy will enjoy this. As for me, I will try asking if they can make mine spicier next time.
Panang Pork: This, on the other hand, was hot enough for my tastebuds. The thinly sliced, tender pork pieces managed to soak up the thick and spicy aromatic curry nicely.
Fishcake: A must-order. These were fragrant with herbs and springy to the bite. Extra yummy with the accompanying dip.
Thai Style Kangkong: Simply fried with "tau cheo" and sliced chilli, the vegetables were cooked just right.
Verdict: I like the food here and have every intention of returning very soon.

I have been seeing a lot of Thai food photos on my IG feed, thanks to many of my friends who are/were holidaying at Bangkok. 😆😆😆 Since I can't go to BKK 😢, I will have to satisfy my Thai food craving in SG. 😂 This fried rice dish is rather yummy, though I would have preferred it to be spicier and have a stronger tom yum taste.
