maybe i had too high expectations or because i kept it for two days before eating it but this didnβt live up to its hype for me. donβt get me wrong, itβs still a good matcha bun but i tried st leavenβs version before and that tasted better π¬
in comparison, donqβs matcha crumbles are sweeter whereas st leavenβs one was bittersweet which i prefer. however their choc taste is stronger while itβs pretty much non-existent in st leavenβs one so to each his own i guess!!!
no big difference in quality but between the two, if you ask me, iβd say get st leavenβs cos itβs always available + 20c cheaper π€ͺ
Most of you might have already seen this highly raved Uji Matcha Cream & Chocolate Bun (SGD3) many many times on IG, but hereβs my review on itπ.

Queued and bought from @donq_depuis1905, a (not so new) Japaneseπ―π΅ bakery located in the food hall of @takashimayasg B2, this viral matcha gem is hard to get your handsπ on. Since they sell out really fast, you kinda need to be in the right placeπat the right timeπ to nab yourself one or two. I guess Lady Luckπ€ was on our side that day since we only queued for about 10mins...

To get that luscious matchaπ΅ lava when broken into, Iβd recommend heating up the bun in an oven instead of microwaving for approx 8-10mins at 180Β°C. This way you will be able to achieve a crunchierπ¬ layer of cookie crumble on top.

Fluffy, matcha-licious & most importantly, SHIOKβΊοΈ!

My new favourite bread from Donq! Donβt be fooled by how βplainβ this looks, it was so flavourful! Used to buy the mentaiko baguette every time I visit Donq, decided to try this on one occasion and hooked on ever since! π Highly recommended!

Having seen this very hyped up π΄πππππ π©ππ by @donq_depuis1905 all over social media for quite some time now, I finally decided to get one after passing by the bakery, and THERE WAS NOBODY waiting in line in the separate queue for the π΄πππππ π©ππ!!! π±β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
Distributed out in individually packed plastic bags by a smiling Japanese Baker, I happily took one and went to queue 30min in the main queue for payment. π Yes, I queued only for one bun LOL.
Was it worth it??? A DEFINITE YES, if you've never tried it before, and if there isn't a long queue! I microwaved it for 30s on medium heat (too long apparently haha), and the generous amount of π΄πππππ π³πππ automatically flowed out into that beautiful pool of green. ππ°π±π΄.π But it was such a beautiful sight, especially for a Matcha Addict like myself! ππ΅π΅π΅ The bun was surprisingly soft and fluffy even though it was kept in the fridge overnight before heating it up, and paired with just the right amount of sweetness from the chocolate, I enjoyed soaking up every last bit of that delicious pool of nutty and slightly earthy goodness. Extremely messy to say the least, but totally worth the unglam scenario of me stuffing my face hahaha. π
was drawn to this bread bc of the cheesecake looking centre and i love cream cheese!! planned on only having half of this bc i was afraid that itβll be too jelak but nope!! the berries added a nice sourness to the cream cheese and balanced everything out really well
toasted this up and the outer layer was so crispy i lovee π₯° cream cheese adds a slight sweetness to the salty cheese cubes, if uβre into sweet and salty stuff definitely try this out! only downside is that the filling is concentrated in the centre and i had to take many bites to reach it HAHAHAH
