Flame-grilled ribeye steak (200g), served with unlimited fries & fresh lettuce

If @braseiro_sg $20 for 2 housepour merlots ain’t fancy enough for you, then look no further than their well curated winelist. It features five French reds that go by the glass, and an additional five that only retail by the bottle. Of course, they have another three reds from other countries, two whites and a rosé if you’re so inclined.⠀

Sitting pretty in this glass is a pour of Clarendelle’s 2017 vintage Bordeaux. It’s a classic Bordeaux red blend, and its DNA is 67% merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, and just one percent Cabernet Franc. It’s one hundred percent fabulous too, as its velvety smooth and heavy body emit aromas of vanilla, oak and leather. The flavours, however, are distinctly blackberry, plum & raisin, with fleeting hints of cinnamon in there.⠀

As expected of a good Bordeaux blend, Clarendelle’s Bordeaux is charmingly complex with great fruit forward flavours and soft, rounded tannins. Tis a wonderful wine, and is best enjoyed slowly sipped between big bites of juicy entrecôte.

I’ve always been an aficionado of affordable, succulent steaks, and @braseiro_sg is a purveyor of affordable & succulent steaks. It’s a match! Braseiro’s signature steak is the entrecôte ($23++ for 200 grams, $28++ for 300 grams), which is the French cut of beef from the intermediate rib area. Ribeyes are the American name for it, and both entrecôte & ribeye are basically the same thing: a cut of rib steak.⠀

Technicalities aside, Braseiro’s steak is utterly sublime. As you might’ve expected, I ordered the larger three hundred gram steak and I’m mighty pleased I did. It’s grilled just barely to medium rare and seasoned very simply with sea salt and coarsely cracked black pepper. Each juicy, fabulously fatty & terrifically tender morsel was laden with primally satisfying beefy flavours. The salt, pepper and smoke from the grill accentuated the innate scrumptiousness of the steak, and each piece was a delight to devour.⠀

Each order of entrecôte gets you free flow sides of steak frites & salad. The garden salad is simply a palate cleanser to dial back the richness of the steak, and it serves its role well with its simple balsamic dressing. The frites, as expected, were thin shoestring fries that do go cold pretty quickly. They start off adequately crunchy & pleasant, but they get awfully greasy & limp the minute they lose heat. Don’t neglect the fries like I did, and you’ll probably have a better frites experience than I did.⠀

Wash it all down with the happy hour promo of 2 glasses of housepour merlot for $20++, and this scintillating steak dinner will rarely leave your memories. Honestly, not sampling Braseiro’s steaks is a huge missed steak.

Well-known affordable steak frites at Braseiro. For the price one is paying, there should be a natural tendency to manage expectations. So for the quality of ribeye steak that I am getting, I am really not complaining. In fact, I thought the steak itself was well-seasoned and had a tasty grilled flavour. However, my only gripe is the lack of consistency in their doneness. I ordered two medium rare 200g entrecote steaks but one was significantly rarer than the other. The rarer one felt a bit more on a rare plus side, which was unideal for my palate. The steak was served with three different sauces, and I appreciated that diversity. The three sauces were black pepper, mustard, and thousand island — all of which complemented the steak well.

The steak here comes with free flow fries and lettuce. I absolutely enjoyed their homemade fries — and I can't really explain why. I just thought that the textures and crispiness were all done right as homemad shoestring fries.

Was scrolling through pictures and saw Braseiro's Garlic Cheese bread and knew that I had to try it. While braseiro's normal garlic bread markets at $8.90, one would have to top up $2 to have it slathered with melted cheese. Although I was pretty excited for it, I personally thought this was just decent. I expected the bread to be more on the toasty side but it was slightly softer than expected. With the melted cheese, it unfortunately overwhelmed the garlic flavour which I was hoping would still be the main flavour of the bread. Cheese and garlic would always still be a welcome combination for me, but I would think the cheese to be more melty and milder on the surface. Braisero's melted cheese bread however, had cheese that was more stringy and chewy that masked the whole surface of the bread. I do think that this is a matter of personal preference and that I do have a certain idea about what my garlic cheese bread to be — melty, flowy cheese with a huge oomph of garlic flavour, but what Braseiro delivered was not what I was looking for. Then again, as I have mentioned, it was still a decent basket of Garlic cheese bread, and it really depends on how you'd like them.

Cosy place in Joo Chiat that offers affordable and good quality steak. Comes with free flow fries too. They also have an ongoing promotion- couple set with cheese fondue and dessert, which were delicious too. Very generous portion size!
