Located in Jalan Besar, this cafe's decor might throw you off with their 2D black & white concept but don't let it stray you away from trying their signature Monochrome's Angel Hair ($14), umami Truffle Cream Pasta ($16) and Wagyu Donburi ($18). Think tender grain-fed M85 wagyu brisket atop a bed of fluffy rice and served with runny sous vide egg, furikake and asparagus! Finish off the meal with their Youtiao Ice Cream ($6.50) for sharing.

The 2D concept is definitely a selling point but other than that, the food portions are rather small and average. Coffee was just alright. But nothing to rave about to be honest.

While this isn’t exactly a fresh new concept (inspired by KDrama “W - Two Worlds”), @cafemonochromesg is still a new addition to the Insta-worthy cafe scene in 🇸🇬, offering Asian & Western fusion dishes. Aside from coffee, you can get your dessert fix too, such as lava cakes and waffle/youtiao with ice cream.

Thanks to Burpple Beyond, we had these mains for the price of 1!😬
👉Wagyu Donburi - SGD18
grain-fed MB5 wagyu brisket, don, sous vide egg, furikake, asparagus
👉Truffle Cream Pasta - SGD16
fusilli, truffle cream, swiss brown mushroom, smoked bacon

Manage your foodie expectations and come down with the intention of enjoying the vibes and taking OOTD & interior shots within the café. If I had to pick one of the two, I’d go for their Truffle Cream Pasta. Their Wagyu Donburi had much room for improvement, in terms of portion, mouthfeel and flavour.

The appearance wasn't that appealing due to the colour, shape and texture of the you tiao. But the taste of the youtiao and ice cream is nice. We finished the dessert.

Decent portion but could have more mentaiko sauce. Personally find it abit dry. Took awhile to serve the dish too.

Tried their signature youtiao icecream and was blown away. The youtiao is not oily at all and goes perfectly well with the ice cream. It is warm, crispy paired with the cold icecream. A very new experience and absolutely loved it.
