Few more days left for Mr Fish & Chips @ Wok Inn Cafe at PoMo before the mall closes for renovations end of this month. Visited them way back in the day when they had first moved into PoMo and times had definitely changed — the Battered Fillet of Fish that was served yesterday was probably one of the best renditions at the price point yet at S$9.90; crisp, golden brown batter that is not too greasy with flaky fish that is sufficiently moist within, which is a far cry from the substandard version of the same dish I have had from them a couple of years back. Those thick cut chips work best with ketchup on the side; crisp on the exterior yet fluffy within, the chips were also not over-seasoned with salt for flavour as well. Uncle told us that they would be moving back to Toa Payoh within a coffeeshop near Braddell at Blk 125; now you know where to check them out!

Priced at $9.90 as a main. I could have added on $3.90 to make it a set meal with soup and a drink but I was not that hungry.

Crispy on the outside and juicy tender on the inside for the deep fried fish. Goes well with the malt vinegar recommended by the staff. Mash was smooth and creamy with a light taste to the gravy sauce.

.
Hawker fare, gone good. A large fillet of perfectly battered and fried john dory.
.
Thin crisp coat that shatters to reveal the almost creamy fish within. Delicate sweet savoury flavour.
.
Eat this in true British English style with thick cut chips, a sprinkle of salt, and a dash of malt vinegar.

Boss of the place is a pretty old uncle, seeing him frying the fishies though the glass window, everything suddenly feel nostalgic even though I am in the middle of POMO. Uncle wears a shirt printed with their signature bottles of malt vinegar. The vinegar might not change the dish vastly, but it truly is something different and I'm glad they held on to it 😍

Ordered the combo ($16.90) that comes with one piece of fish and one piece of chicken + a choice of 2 sides (mash potatoes, French fries and coleslaw). The stall name is "mr fish & chips" so it isn't surprising that most of the patrons ordered the fish and chips ($9.90). One of their main selling points is the malt vinegar that they provide for the fish and chips. The fish is fried to perfection, and it taste like the old school type of western. Not bad but I won't be raving about it (apparently they has a lot media coverage on both channel 8 and 5). I think the chicken turned out to be the hidden gem at the stall! The chicken is juicy on the inside and fried to perfection on the outside! Seasoning of the chicken is superb! I will definitely come back again for the chicken and I want to try the wings next time too! (Prices of wings: 3 for $3 and 5 for $4.50). If you can produce proof of being a student, there's price 25% reduction during lunch! Xoxo, wet tissue no have

Fish and chips, $9.90- fish is very crispy, but fries and coleslaw were small portion. Add set, $3.90- mushroom soup with garlic bread and 1 glass of chilled drink. I took ice lemon tea. Both soup and drink were nice.
