Had some time to kill in the vicinity - chanced upon Caffe Fernet's happy hour & decided why not. Predictably, the King Cole Old Fashioned ($15++) spoke to me. Bulleit Bourbon, Fernet Branca liqueur, Angostura Bitters. Totally up my alley!

Service is quick & by golly, this drink is a stiff one. I like that, because at the end of it all, I don't find it too diluted & meh. Holds its weight throughout.

I happily sipped on it & thought about life as I took in the nice view of MBS, having been allocated an al fresco seat facing the waters. I was here in the evening, towards the later half of Happy Hour (3 - 7:30PM). I'd imagine that the sun would be quite in your face had I been here earlier in the day... So try to sit indoors during lunch time.

Quite a boisterous crowd on Thursday evening. I will be back & perhaps the next time I'll order off their dinner menu. I have my eye on some pastas...

Ricotta, chestnut honey, thyme ($14) - the ricotta was incredibly fresh and creamy and went perfectly with the crispy, slightly charred sourdough. Again, my only gripe is that it was a smaller portion than expected for the price - I was hoping for more bread and ricotta as it was gone in a few bites. From pictures from other reviews for Caffe Fernet on Burpple, the amount of ricotta and the number of slices of sourdough (originally 3!) has certainly decreased, and this left me feeling pretty disappointed.

Spanner crabmeat, saffron, parmigiano ($29) - this was a really light, well-balanced pasta, with just a hint of lemon and a really strong crab flavour. I was looking forward to a larger portion of crab though - it was scattered about in meagre, tiny little pieces and left the pasta dish feeling rather plain and slightly underwhelming for the price. I’d say you could order this to try or share, but it’s definitely not the most value for money dish here.

Veal meatballs, ricotta, tomatoes, basil - these could possibly be the best meatballs we’ve ever had! They were so tender and the veal was so abundant and flavourful. The sauce paired with the veal meatballs was really thick and creamy - filled with lots of ricotta and mixed with some tomatoes and basil. I’d highly recommend this dish for sharing!

Ricotta was great, nice and creamy. Crab spaghetti and Malfaldine Cacio e Pepe were average, though the pasta were cooked well with good texture. Hamachi a bit too fishy for my liking

Ordered mushroom toast, spicy rigatoni and chicken to be shared by two. The rigatoni definitely is something that stands out as it is much spicy than the usual pasta that you may have. Nice vibe - very relax and chill to come during weekdays after work.
