The Carousel Fruit Cake is a playful and intricate rendition of a good ol’ classic Christmas log cake. Made with rum and brandy-infused candied fruits and chocolate, the cake is pleasing both to the eyes and palate. This is seriously the prettiest Christmas cake I’ve ever seen!

We added on some mushrooms, vegetables and beancurd skin and the bill came up to about $56 with drinks for 2. The 小辣 is just spicy enough for me the beef brisket is tender and a good change from the usual porky mala we would pick. Even though this joint has a buffet option at $27.90++ per pax on weeknights, we didn’t feel we could eat enough for our money’s worth since the base pot is just enough for 2 pax. However, I would totally revisit with more friends in tow so we can split the base pot and still have room for sides! Gather more friends *hint* @kayelle_ @van.kumar .

On Monday to Fridays, 12pm to 3pm, Ash & Elm has this semi-buffet concept which includes all-you-can-eat appetisers and desserts. We got our vouchers at more than half price off during the recent Chope Online Fest and finally dropped by to try. Our favorites were the cold cuts and 3 types of cheeses, while the other options were hits and misses. Most appetisers that day were cold ones, but it would have been nicer if there was a better balance of hot dishes. The dessert section was not bad, with the best part being their range of creamy ice cream! Overall a decent experience but this one try was sufficient for us.

Original price of this semi-buffet is $28 but it’s going at 20% off on Chope. There’s also an option of upgrading it to include a main to go along or to opt for their Saturday Buffet/Sunday Champagne Brunch.

Oft hailed to be the best fried chicken in Sydney & Melbourne, I was lucky enough to have the chance to try out @belleshotchicken ‘s pop up at Smoke&Pepper in Andaz Hotel today, before it officially opens over the weekend, thanks to @veronicaphua ! ☺️
The Spicy Chicken Sandwich ($22) was easily the best item they had to offer. The bread was nicely buttered and toasted, the chicken thigh in the middle was huge, crispy, juicy, and so well marinated with the hot sauce, while at the same time being mild in spice, allowing the flavour of the cold lettuce shreds and onions accompanying it to shine through.
The chicken wings were crisp and succulent, and bathed in a mildly spicy, zesty sauce. The tenders were, well, tender, and heavily dusted with the spice mix and would leave a coat of Southern flavoured goodness on your lips.
The sides were good too, a decent coleslaw and picked vegetables, fries perfectly seasoned with Old Bay spice mix, and a refreshing broccoli and almond salad.

Rein by their signature mushroom soup base, they have both ala carte and buffet options. In exact, 2 kind of buffet options - the normal one and the premium one which includes additional items like wagyu, black pork, scallops etc. For the usual normal selection, it has a decent variety of pork belly, beef belly, pork shoulder, tender beef slices, fish slices, handmade balls, mushrooms and veggies etc. All their ingredients are fresh and timely replenished. Among all the soup stocks, I still personally like the mushroom one, it’s light and flavorful. While the mala base is kind of fragrant but lack the oomph while the herbal soup is easily sweetened up with all the ingredients added into it. Quite worth the buck I would say! But it gets really crowded! So there’s a time limit during peak period and to avoid the queue remember to make a reservation!

the scallops were sweet and had the right amount of softness yet mantain its bite. it came accompanied w a medley of cruciferous veges and croutons in a brown butter sauce. as tasty and well executed it was, i mean u can literally count the florets in the vege medley 😅

the noodles were doused in a crustacean sauce which tasted like a concentrated prawn soup/lobster bisque concoction. the seafood was fresh and noodles were al dente, smt u can try if u r feelin asian

the meat was tender and juicy, amazing texture that complemented the fat that was melt in the mouth delicious + the natural jus enhanced the flavour profile. it’s totally worth every dollar paid for this amazingness.
