Old school fried bee hoon taste. Very hard to find these days. I filmed a video review of this stall. Check it out here: https://youtu.be/joY1mQVOT8c

Disclaimer: No sharks are killed for this. No mushrooms are used for the mock version either. Simply by mixing beehoon into the bonito-based porridge (skip the chili if you want to do this) and ta-da, you get shark fin porridge that WWF will thank you for. Easy on the wallet, Mother Earth, and #comfortfood for the stomach.

A popular breakfast option for Chinatown Market patrons, the Fried Economical Beehoon ($1) is full-flavoured (with a delightful trace of wok hei), yet none at all greasy. It's served with a nicely piquant chili which I didn't even need, such is the scrumptiousness of these springy strands. Suitably portioned for a light breakfast, or as a "snack" together with their Fried Economical Mee and Fish & Peanut Porridge (both also at $1) to make it a full and very satisfying meal.

My childhood breakfast almost every Saturday, my dad will drove my bro and I to Chinatown Complex to eat the "shark fin" porridge. We love to add some of the bee hoon into the porridge. After a few stirs, the color of the porridge darkens, making the bee hoon looked like shark fin in the soup. The porridge is infused with dried bonito flakes and the fried bee hoon filled with wok hei. Thus my bro and me thought that this was how shark fin tasted like (of course, until we tried the real one)! Way better than any shark fin. 😋😋

We witnessed the power of inflation through this stall, their prices raised from 50CENTS to 1 dollar a bowl. Thankfully, it's taste remains the same. Last time they also sold fried hor fun, but now they only focus on fried bee hoon and porridge. Nothing fancy and very simple ingredients but I can't find any similar flavors in Singapore! #Hawkerpedia

On Monday Morning I wanna try this but so sad that they are closed but i managed to come back to eat yesterday. My Mum told me the this is a simple breakfast meal. The Fried Bee Hoon is simple the stall owner just fried the bee hoon by adding bean sprouts & light soya sauce for seasoning. My mum told me that the stall owner has some technique. Outside economy fried bee hoon we eat is cold & soggy. The fried bee hoon the stall owner serve is piping hot not forgetting their porridge too. The porridge i can say is awesome. The porridge is infused with peanut & 柴鱼 at first i was thinking it was bland after eating i can feel the saltiness of the porridge is infused with the 柴鱼.I can say both porridge & the fried bee hoon is simple .
