Fat mama
B1 - 06A

I love supporting new stalls - especially so when you can tell that the stall owners are first time food operators. I find that they tend to put more “ feelings” and care into food preparation and you’d be able to taste more of what michael Pollan calls the “ handtaste”.

Having concluded a meeting at raffles and just early enough before the mad crowd rushes in , I found this new stall called Fat mama. If I remember correctly , this stall has changed hands so many times - from frozen yoghurt to pastas and now - local food .

Craving for a good bowl of mee siam and that I didn’t want to pay through my nose through it in this expensive part of town , the 3.50 price tag was too alluring to ignore .

So after cross examining whether the owners used pre packed Mee siam paste and whether they use microwave - I was happy to place my order 😊 ( because I detest pre packed gravies and I detest microwaves ).

From the first look of the Mee siam , I fell in love with it . No watery sauce Nor thick layer of chilli oil floating above my Mee siam .

Served piping hot , the Mee siam had a powerful punch in flavour and a good tangy- ness from the tamarind and a smooth richness from the Tau Cheo ( you could still see beans floating in the rich gravy ).

My only complaint is that styrofoam bowls were used 😰 which is both a health hazard and an environmental hazard. The other thing that I didn’t particularly like were the Tau Pok puffs because they had a slight stale oil smell to them.

Then again , I would still say that this is a pretty good bow of Mee siam overall .

I would love to try the gado gado someday because the owners claim that their sauce is the Indonesian style type and is very very very good .

@thelapisplacesingapoe which specialised in these buttery layered cake is now available in Singapore.

Offering a variety of flavours such as their popular Cinnamon, fragrant Pandan or Chocolate. For those who prefer something different, they have Durian and Cheese too! So come on down to Change Alley @ Raffles Place (near Chevron House) before 14 February 2018 to sample these lapis.

P.S. they have extended their orders taking to 9 February 2018! Yippy~

Don't know the name of this stall but it's located at the basement of chevron house just outside Aussie Roll. The ytf here is cheap and the best around the area I feel, please do not miss out on the deep fried triangular beancurd stuffed with fish paste or you will regret for life!

Sounded good that the soft steamed buns have been infused with marine collagen.....Taste quite good.
