The kaya is as good as it used to be. The eggs were disappointing but the OTAH BUN is worth Dabao-ing!

Read a lot of mixed reviews about the newly renovated/rebranded CMC but decided to give it a try anyway.

I gotta say that the coffee was solid and strong - even when I had the iced version. 👍 So I really appreciated that!

Had the Kaya Buns (not pictured) as well and it was so soft and fluffy. The kaya was really fragrant. 💯

Also ordered the Cream Horn(?) and Chocolate Peanut Butter Tart. I wouldn’t recommend the former if you’re expecting a creamy, custardy texture. Was a tad disappointed because it just tasted like whipped butter. The consistency of the “cream” was slightly more runny than it was thick. Probably wouldn’t order that ever again. As for the latter, I’d buy that again in a heartbeat. It just tastes like one of those old skool chocolate wafers melted down, and mixed with creamy peanut butter and piped into a buttery tart crust. Really yummy. :)

TLDR; Get the Coffee, Kaya Bun (be sure to eat it hot!), and Chocolate Peanut Butter Tart.

For those who missed their signature charcoal toasted bun ($2.20 ala carte, from $4.90/set), it is better than before. Slightly more chewy yet soft, the buns are spread with creamy house-made Kaya and a slab of butter. And set comes with soft boiled egg which you can dunk these buns into.

People growing up in the Katong area and beyond will vividly recall the iconic Chin Mee Chin Confectionery along East Coast Road and the place has underwent some renovations but the nostalgic charm still remains. The Breakfast Set of kaya toast, soft boiled eggs and drink ($4.90) is the quintessential Singaporean breakfast and is something that Chin Mee Chin Confectionery has perfected it. The soft pillowy texture of the bun with the pandan coconut jam and slab of butter is just something that you will crave for anytime of the day while you slurp down the perfectly boiled eggs that has been seasoned with dark soya sauce and a dash of white pepper. Wash it all down with some kopi-o and this is your instant boost of energy or perk-me-up kinda meal.

Had local breakfast here with kaya bun, egg and teh c. Always enjoy the kaya here which is freshly made everyday, that is so fragrant and generously spread over the bun. Be prepared to queue when you arrive at 10am for a seat.
