The millennials’ favourite breakfast dish - avocado on toast. 🥑🥚🥖Clan Cafe does a great but pricey version of it. Smashed avocado, two poached eggs (additional $3++) roasted cherry tomatoes and rockets on sourdough. Sounds simple but the combination is on point. Squeeze some lemon if you like a sour flavour profile.

Mrs Kuehs kueh salat made an appearance at dinner today. I love that the ratio of kaya to pulut was more than 1 and the kueh was delicious, reminiscent of chalk farms rendition. My personal preference is a softer sweeter wobblier version like bangawan solos but this was good enough to be finished within a few minutes 😜

Everything was yum. From the salted egg calamari to kueh pie tie to scallop porridge to beef kwaytiao and lastly to service and cocktails.
The gulamelaka whisky cocktail and chai negroni was absolute love. Had 3 rounds of it! Andrew the outlet Manager was so welcoming and such a nice host.

The vibe here at KIN is classier than the chef's previous restaurant at Folklore with the food still retaining its authentic peranakan feel - case in point, our spicy and delicious ayam, and there's also an added bonus of a wonderful attentive team of staff!

We had the dinner set consisting of 3 small plates (ngoh hiang, chi pow kai, daun pegaga), okra and greens, babi assam, ayam lemak chili padi, soup, steamed fish (not shown) and sampling of nonya desserts (kueh kosui, kueh bangkah and sugee cake).

This aesthetic bowl consisted of a colorful assortment of healthy vegetables and salmon resting atop a grain mix of quinoa, red rice and white rice. ($18) There were shredded carrot and beetroot, cherry tomato, edamame, sugar snap peas and lotus root. There was a $6 topup option for mushroom broth.

All the ingredients tasted really fresh and crisp. Its quite rare to find sugar snap peas in a bowl so I was really enjoying the crunch and the sweetness. The grain mix was also delicious, with the quinoa providing a lovely bite against the soft rice. My only gripe was the salmon; it was too thin to be that tender, flaky texture and didn't really have a strong miso flavor which was what I expected.

The cafe is gorgeous though. Floor to ceiling windows allow natural sunlight to stream in. There is a large communal table and the bustling but not too noisy ambience is perfect for getting some work done or people-watching while enjoying a cup of coffee.

Chef Damian’s (previous Executive Chef at Folklore) new dining concept nestled within the Straits Clan has some new and old dishes on the menu.

We were still KIN to have this very flavourful Buah Leluak Fried Rice though, which is good to share amongst 2-3 people. Too many dishes to try, too little space. Good idea to come in group of 4 or more!
