Due to the recent rainy weather, I realised that I crave for fish soups more than usual, and Song's Fish Soup came into my mind!

Their rendition ($5.50 a bowl) is definitely a quality one, due to its rich milky soup flavoured by a base fish broth, milk, shallots and most importantly, a fried egg. They accomplished a good enough depth of flavour, all without being too salty. The fish slices were all very fresh and thick, even for their fried ones. They were perfect with their chilli sauce, which they mixed some fermented bean sauce that gave it extra umami. An enjoyable bowl I will have whether I'm around the area.

Among the few fish soup stalls in the hawker centre, I believe this is the best.

I must say, I haven't had great fish soup in some time and I'm glad to have chanced upon this stall.

I had the Yuan Yang Bee Hoon Soup ($6.50 for medium) and it came with a pretty generous number of fresh and fried fish slices. The fish slices were all fresh and flavourful, and it's best paired with their sambal belacan! The sauce definitely has a kick and has full of umami 😍

The soup itself is incredibly robust, with umami from fish stock coming strong and the milk added made it even richer! Very addictive.

I love how a fried egg is added as well to give the soup more flavour. This is definitely a comforting dish to have on a rainy day!

Of the three fish soup stall in 448 Clementi Market, this one has the longest queues most of the time. As I have already tried the other two stalls, my expectations were therefore quite high. Plus I had to buy queue for 25 minutes.

Ordered the Yuan Yang Fish Soup (Fried fish and sliced fish) for $5.50 and added $1.00 of Deep Fried Egg. You can choose to add bee hoon or just plain soup. The soup was neither the clear or milky type. It was yellowish in colour and tasted more salty than umami but quite nice. You get 4 pieces of fried fish, 4 pieces of sliced batang fish and a few slivers of bitter gourd, plenty of cabbage and it comes garnished with chopped spring onion, fried shallots and two small pieces of seaweed.

The fried fish was just ordinary but the pieces were large. The batang slices were outright thin and tend to break when you use chopsticks to pick them up. Their chilli sauce had a strong savoury taste of bean paste but did not pack enough heat.

Overall, not a very impressive bowl of fish soup and clearly one of the other stall beat them hands down. So why the long queue when it is also not the cheapest?

Given the choice of both competitors of another for lunch. I still think this stall deserve the feature given by the choice of noodles and i really like how their chilli sauce turns out to be different. Despite on the common taste that you usually had, I just feel this is not like any other fish soup you can have. It's a perfect deal you can have for lunch 😄

Better than the photo would suggest, especially with the sauce and fish otah that I got two stalls away.
