Goodwood Park is known for their iconic durian desserts, and I went for just that last month! They were having a Mao Shan Wang and D24 Durian Dessert buffet at Coffee Lounge, and it made for a decadent treat. Yes, everything on this plate is durian flavoured!

My favourites at the buffet were the 𝐌𝐒𝐖 𝐌𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐬𝐞 𝐂𝐚𝐤𝐞, 𝐌𝐒𝐖 𝐂𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐞 as well as the 𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐭 𝐓𝐚𝐫𝐭! The cake was light and fluffy, paired generously with the durian frosting. The crepe likewise was stuffed full of the durian filling, and was so shiok to eat! At some point, I felt like I was just eating durian pengat nonstop because of the filling to skin ratio. Lastly, the tart was a surprising combination that I loved! It reminded me of the traditional peanut candies that we used to eat during Chinese New Year, and went surprisingly well with the durian.

Because this was my first meal of the day, it got undoubtedly jelat after awhile. They do offer the dessert buffet a-la-carte but also offer pairings with their mains. Thankfully, I opted for the 3-course Degustation Menu ($62++ per person). Swipe to see the mains I had! Take note the serving sizes are really small but it helps to balance out the desserts.

The Taiwanese porridge in Coffee lounge at Goodwood Park in hotel is one such example. Their ala-carte buffet has been running for years, a testament to its quality. Look forward to delicious stir fry’s and sharing dishes that are made a la minute. My personal favourites are their seafood omelette and prawn paste chicken. Don’t forget to leave some room for dessert as well! Their bread and butter pudding is excellent.

The ala carte buffet is available at $39++ on weekdays for adults from Monday to Thursday and $42++ in Fridays to Sundays.

Back in the day, the Coffee Lounge at the Goodwood Park Hotel was one of the most popular post-clubbing supper spots. Crowds would flock there from whichever party venue they were at because there was nothing like comforting a belly sloshing in alcohol with some steaming hot porridge and a spread of dishes.
I am very happy to announce that even after all this time, the quality of said porridge, which is actually known as the “Taiwan Porridge A La Carte Buffet”, is as superb as ever.
Once seated, you will be given a menu with over 30 dishes to pick from. All but three of them (they are the pricier seafood of pomfret and prawns) are unlimited in servings, so you have the freedom to repeat those you love.
The dishes I enjoyed a lot would be the fried pomfret (every part including fins and tail are edible as it’s fried till extremely crispness), “chye por” omelette (a little oily but who cares), crunchy baby squid coated in sweet oyster sauce, sambal kangkong, beansprouts with salted fish, “mui choy” with pork, chilled beancurd with Japanese soya sauce and pork floss, and the pork belly braised in dark soya sauce.
Honestly, there were many more dishes I was dying to try but since there were only two of us (I went with a foodie friend), and we didn’t want to waste food, we did our best to not let our eyes-bigger-than-stomach tendencies get the better.
What we both agreed was the unassuming porridge was the vital component in this meal. Without its perfectly cooked consistency anchoring the flavour assortment before us, I think the two of us wouldn’t have been sighing so blissfully as we tucked in.
Not that either of us had belly space left to do it justice but there‘s a dessert spread included too. Comprising of local and Western styles that range from peranakan “kueh kueh” to Cantonese “tong shui”, from warm bread and butter pudding to ice-cream, there is plenty of options for a sweet ending.

PRICES:

From Monday to Thursday: $39++ per adult, $19.50++ per child.

From Friday to Sunday, and on the eve of and on Public Holidays: $42++ per adult, $21++ per child‪.‬

You design your own local food degustation menu here, meaning you get to choose your starter, mains and rice/noodles dishes in small tasting portions from a menu spanning Chinese, Malay, Indian to Peranakan signatures, including the most popular Singaporean fare. The meal will be accompanied by the lovely spread of D24 durian desserts, on top of the usual dessert buffet.
🔸
This is launched in conjunction with the Durian Fiesta at Goodwood Park Hotel on 15 March. In addition to the signature local desserts, cakes and pastries, the dessert buffet spread at Coffee Lounge features nine D24 durian creations such as D24 Pandan Lapis Coconut Cake (new in 2019); D24 Mousse Cake; D24 Puff; D24 Oreo Cake; D24 Hazeln
ut Tart; D24 Chendol Pudding; D24 Custard Bun; D24 Pancake - prepared a la minute at a ‘live’ station; and a D24 Ice Cream.
🔸
Their durian desserts excelled on two fronts - First, the quality of the durians; and second, how the pastry component complement our king of fruits. For this reason, maybe a compelling option for the local degustation is to opt for 3-course ($49.80), saving stomach space for more durian desserts. Then again, my additional course of laksa (pictured top right corner) was really good as well. What a dilemma.
