Thai Boat Noodles ($18). This bowl of boat noodles had a thick and rich broth. Was told that it was painstakingly slow-boiled for hours, using more than 15 types of herbs. It was indeed really flavorful. The spice may be too mild for some, but you've the option to request for it to be extra spicy. 馃敻 This is taken during a tasting.

Prawn Cakes ($15, comes in 4s). I like their prawn cakes, it was thick and juicy, and fillings felt genuine. Was told that they were made of tiger prawns, and Cha Thai is good for theie tiger prawns dishes. Mop this up with a bit of the Thai sweet plum sauce which @wishuponatart was pictured holding it here. It was a great treat. Taken during a tasting.

Signature Cha Thai Toast (SGD $8) @ Cha Thai. . A platter of golden brown toast and charcoal toast, alongside a Thai milk tea dip and a pandan dip. . The toast is lovely and crisp, though I don't detect much difference between the regular version and the charcoal version. . But the luscious, creamy dipping sauces are delicious; the pandan / screwpine leaf dip is floral earthy sweet, while the Thai milk tea is nicely balanced, just like their beverage. . Mutton Vindaloo 14.9++? This was my friends' favourite. Tender mutton with potatoes and a rather moreish gravy. However while this was filled with spices it's rather mild. Overall i guess this is a good introduction to Indian cuisine if you're afraid of something with heat yet want to try Indian cuisine. Since even the "spicy" option was very mild I guess anything on the menu is pretty safe. Also they mentioned everything is made fresh so that's laudable as well. But please please please remember to use the burpple deal else it's very overpriced.

Lamb Roganjosh 14.9++? Tbh I forgot which one was which between the mutton vindaloo and lamb roganjosh. However, those two curries were the only passable ones. They aren't anywhere near spicy so don't expect that when u read spicy on the menu. It's so mild it's literally drinkable. Then again I guess they tune their food to suit the "public" taste so that's why they are so raved about? I can't say I don't understand but when I visit a place w Indian curries I expect an authentic fiery mess with lots of spice. Either ways this was rather flavourful. Had a good deal of the lamb umami and was thick and savoury

Butter Chicken 14.9++? This was most definitely not the normal butter chicken lol. I can't even begin to point out the differences. It's really sweet and lacks savouriness. I guess it's fine if you don't come in expecting butter chicken. If you have an open mind you might actually appreciate it. It's so frustrating I can't decide whether I like it or hate it since it really deviates from normal butter chicken but still I had many spoonfuls of this

Naan Basket 14.9++ Consisting of butter plain herb and garlic by right but we got butter plain peshwari and the last one had both cilantro and garlic so I'm not sure if it was supposed to be garlic or herb. Anyways it was rather thin but dense so it wasn't very good at moping up the curry. The only redeeming point was the slightly crisp surface

; Pot Choices One of my absolute favourite hotpots in town, Long Qing, now offers Sake parings! We had a taste of the citrusy Miwa Yuzu Sake (personal fave), the traditional Kiku Masamune Junmai Taru and the sofisticated Ozeiki Junmai Rai for more experienced alcoholics. 馃槈 If you need recommendations for broth choices, try these: - Spicy MaLa Broth | good amount of heat without too much of the numbing sensation. - Wild Mushroom Broth | the friggin' best extracted mushroom flavoured broth I've ever tasted. More than three types of mushrooms boiled for hours with their signature Pork broth! - Shark's Fin Melon Herbal Soup | newest addition to their broth choices, naturally sweetened with Honey Dates and Chinese Almonds. 58bucks/bottle of Yuzu Sake #FTrecommends

Crispy Taro Balls (6 for $9.80++) These can be elusive as they are hand-made in small batches by the Head Chef. Do make sure to reserve them when you make a table booking. Chilli Crab Pasta My second time ordering this dish although I usually shun the spicy stuff - and it is pretty spicy as far as chilli crab pastas go. I had to keep a cold drink at hand for the occasional respite from the spice but it is highly appetising as the sauce is also tangy and flavourful. The crab meat is quite tender as well. Comes in both half and full-sized portions which is quite flexible depending on your level of hunger. The sauce is also very generous, which makes you wish you had a few mantous to mop up the remains when the pasta's finished. Tucked out of sight from the main Tanglin road, the restaurant isn't the easiest place to locate, it is worth visiting - an online booking recommended since you can get 25% of the mains, which is really good bang for your buck 馃枓馃枓

Alsatian tarte flamb茅 [$16++] A 20-30 min waiting time is required for this baked flatbread topped with sour cream, sliced onions, bacon bits, thyme, caramelised apples and mozzarella cheese. Nevertheless the wait was worthwhile with the thin crusted flatbread bearing an ideal cracker-like crispness. Texture was on point but unfortunately not so for the flavours. The sour cream was hardly detectable and the mozzarella cheese was a thin layer that could have been more distinct. The bulk of flavours are derived from the smoky bacon, crunchy caramelised (or should I say cinnamon-lised) apples with the caramelised onions bearing a mere presence too. IMO the apples didn't quite complement the savoury dish and I would have prefer if it was softer with more caramelised flavour. Perhaps this is more suited to those with a lighter palate as it wasn't flavourful enough for me 馃槬 . . . #burpple

Mushroom risotto [$23++] Only available on the dinner menu (4pm onwards), assorted wild mushrooms, porcini are served along with a bed of risotto cooked to a creamy, grainy consistency. Apparently the truffle flavour seemed to be more distinct here as compared to the mac & cheese, flavourful and aromatic. The mushrooms were chewy, juicy and lended a pleasant earthy note to the risotto that was creamy, thick while retaining a grainy mouthfeel. Topped with Parma ham chips that added a pleasant crisp factor and a tinge of savoury saltiness, the only gripe would be the steep pricetag that came along. But much thanks to @burpple for the giveaway, I managed to enjoy my meal here without any worries to the damage in my pocket 鈽猴笍. . . . #burpple

Truffle mac & cheese [$19++] Only available for the dinner menu (4pm onwards), this dish comprises of macaroni baked in creamy b茅chamel sauce and four cheeses with truffle butter, topped with an essential baked cheese surface layer. With an approximate waiting time of 20-30 minute, the top layer of cheese was baked to perfection with golden brown exterior that was thick, gooey and crusty at the edges. A pity the elasticity wasn't that on point though, with the cheese being a little dry and as a result, not so flexible 馃槄. Truffle flavour and aroma was distinct but I would personally prefer it to be stronger. The macaroni are bathed in a creamy bechamel sauce that's flavourful with a subtle truffle aroma. Pasta was al dente but some parts (especially the bottom) were a tad too dry and undercooked. Overall, it's a dish that's flavourful and enjoyable (especially if you are a fan of cheese) but highly recommended for sharing. Would also prefer if there were some ingredients e.g. Mushrooms, bacon or ham to go along too instead of just plainly macaroni & cheese. . . . #burpple

Beer Braised Pork Belly and Linguine ($19) Sooo, this looked much better in the photos - I was a little disappointed. The pork belly tasted good but it was not tender (like braised meat ought to be), and the richness of the meat was not sufficient to carry the rather tasteless linguine. A shame though cos the meat tasted nice.

Craft Beer Chicken Rice ($16) Another just okay dish. The rice was nicely seasoned with a subtle hint of ginger - but it wasn't particularly fluffy and in some parts stuck together. The meat was nice enough, like a tender/juicy deli rotisserie chicken and there was a little after taste of the beer. There was a nostalgic feel to this dish - it reminded us of hawker western food chicken chop, especially the gloopy pepper sauce that glazed the chicken leg. Again, it tasted fine but - I don't think I'd pay $16 for this again. 馃槓

For Beer and Beer-Infused Plates Located at the courtyard of Rendezvous Hotel Singapore, this new craft beer restaurant offers 12 craft beers on tap, along with a menu of bar bites and beer-infused mains. The place is actually by the guys from Alchemy and the now defunct The RawR Kitchen, so expect comforting, hearty plates 鈥 perfect for a buzzy gathering with food-loving friends. Burpple Tastemaker Emily S was pleasantly surprised by how the beers are priced "by mileage", meaning a full pint is exactly double the price of the half, so it's great for beer drinkers who like variety. Some of her favourites include the velvety smooth Young's Double Chocolate Stout ($5/10) and aromatic Baird Temple Garden Yuzu Ale ($7/14). While you're here, tuck into delicious mains like the succulent Craft Beer Chicken Rice ($16) 鈥 the kitchen team's take on beer can chicken served with flavoured rice, and Beer Braised Pork Belly Linguine ($19), where the meat is braised in beer for days till tender, sticky and absolutely flavourful. GastroSmiths Never Fails I first saw this bowl of Fisherman's Mee Sua ($26) on a friend's Instagram story and I knew I had to have it. It was sure worth the long wait, before I finally had time to go down to GastroSmiths. Umami is the theme of the dish and every single mouthful tasted like the sea! I loved how kimchi was used to cut through the umami flavours and add a spicy sourish touch to the dish. This was so good, my friend finished my soup even after wiping clean his bowl of donburi 馃槀.

Great Bowl Too many good flavours in a bowl, yet they all compliment each other very well. I'm not even sure where to start to describe this bowl of Hokubee Ribeye Don ($26). The juicy well-seared ribeye steak? The lovely mix of toppings that went so damn well with the rice? Or the perfectly cooked grains? Let's just say, one can definitely lick this bowl dry.

For Unapologetically Great Steak What is cheekily named the Break-Up Steak ($42.90, because it is good enough to replace your partner...), is one of the stars here at this Upper Thomson restaurant. Cooked to a smoky char, the hearty piece of ribeye (250g) proves to be tender, juicy and everything a good steak should be. It is served sans sauce, so you can taste all its natural beefiness, elevated by a secret housemade rub concocted by chef-owner John. The sides are equally delicious 鈥 sweet, caramelised carrots, earthy mushrooms and creamy, comforting mash nicely round up a perfect meal. If you fancy a sweet ending, order the Ultimate Kaya Toast ($6.50), which features rich and silky homemade kaya sandwiched between wafer-thin slices of bread. Ordering breakfast for dessert is an unconventional trick that will certainly reward. Avg Price: $45 per person Photo by Burpple Tastemaker Vanessa Kou

This might look like an unassuming plate of pasta, but the Caramel Carnivore ($16.90) roared with its ferocity of flavours that exploded in our mouths. Onions slowly saut茅ed till they caramelized to give a sweet, burnt aroma that coated the pasta, tossed with marrow, scraps of meat and cartilage.
