For those who prefer soft and chewy waffles, this is the place to go (crispy waffle fans might not enjoy it as much 😅)! Beneath the lightly crisp exterior, the pandan waffles are thick and fluffy like a dense pandan chiffon cake. Personally more of a crispy waffle person & it would be better if the pandan aroma was more pronounced, but the SUPER GAO AND FLOWY black sesame paste oozing between the layers made up for it. The BSSM spread hits different here with its strong roasted nutty fragrance and light sweetness - as a BBSM fan, I approve! 🖤🧇

While their Old School Pandan Waffle is easily one of the most popular items here, I enjoyed the Banana Chocolate Bread, which was moist and filled with melted chocolate chips. Paired it with the Iced Chocolate Einspanner for the chocolate-y experience!

Pandan Waffles (Sesame) ($2.80) really got thick topping sauce for black sesame but I felt that the waffles got soft type once it turned cold and not that crispy type. So I really like their black sesame sauce even though the waffles was really slightly lacking.

Fortune Centre has certainly become more interesting over the years — the building has already seen several exciting F&B establishments set up shop within the complex; this includes that of vegetarian eatery Bodhi Deli, Chinese desserts specialty shop Yatkayan 一家人, handmade pasta restaurant Pasta & Co. and many others that have already established their presence within the F&B scene in Singapore. Being one of the newest additions to the building, Crescent Waffle & Sandwich Shop is the one of the latest tenants to have set up shop at Fortune Centre. Occupying one of the shop units that is around the bend where Herbivore is located, Crescent Waffle & Sandwich Shop is situated at a rather odd corner of the building on the ground level which some folks may miss. That being said, Crescent Waffle & Sandwich Shop does bear quite a unique look that sets them apart from their immediate neighbours — bearing a look that is typical of a cafe that is set up in a regular shophouse unit, the design language adopted for the space can be said as minimalist, yet chic; the furnishings and fittings evoke a sense of Japandi (i.e. Japan + Scandinavian) vibes, with good balance of earthy tones to balance out the whiteness of the space. Visiting Crescent Waffle & Sandwich Shop during their soft launch, the hot food menu comprises of a small selection of sandwiches, salads as well as panda waffles — various pastries and bakes are also stocked up in the display case at the counter should one decide to go for those. The list of beverages available at Crescent Waffle & Sandwich Shop includes specialty coffee brewed using beans roasted by Cowpresso Coffee Roasters (yes; the same folks whom are situated at Lorong Kilat), whilst also offering other drinks such as Matcha, Chocolate, sparkling juice, and a small selection tea from TWG Tea.

Noticing how Crescent Waffle & Sandwich Shop has seemingly placed quite a bit of emphasis on being an establishment specialising in their waffle and sandwich offerings, we found ourselves going for one item each from their “Sandwiches”, as well as the “Waffles” section of the menu. Whilst the Peri-Peri Chicken Sandwich did not leave us with too much of an impression, their pandan waffles are probably the items to go for here. Offering patrons quite a variety of pandan waffles with different spreads to choose from, one can expect pandan waffles served plain at $2, or with spreads like butter, kaya, blueberry, cheese and peanut; all of which are priced at $2.60 — patrons can also opt for their pandan waffle to be spread with black sesame as well, though the Black Sesame Pandan Waffle is priced slightly higher at $2.80. On first look, it is noted that the pandan waffle comes with a brown aesthetic that is consistent throughout the entire waffle — slightly different from the ones from neighbourhood bakeries that often carry a green hue from the pandan-infused batter. This meant that the waffles here do carry a crisp exterior when still warm whilst still chewy within; the waffle also bearing a light whiff of pandan fragrance from the pandan-infused batter as well. In between, there is sufficient black sesame spread that comes in between; each bite sees the black sesame spread ooze out of the waffle — the flavours being almost similar to what one would expect out of black sesame paste being all roasty and earthy. Overall, quite a satisfying waffle at its price point.

Fortune Centre make quite be a melting pot of various cultures when it comes to the F&B tenant mix within the building — it is rare for a single location to play host to so many indie F&B establishments that serves up a wide variety of food across different price points; think value-for-money Korean fare to high-end Japanese Izakaya alongside various vegetarian establishments. Crescent Waffle & Sandwich Shop adds on to that mix of what Fortune Centre has to offer — a spot that serves up proper specialty coffee and offers sandwiches for those looking for a substantial bite, while their pandan waffles seem to target a wider audience considering how it is an item that is well-liked by and pretty relatable to almost all age groups. While the sandwiches do seem more like a toss-up of readily accessible ingredients — something which we felt could have been managed a little better even despite being an establishment with a small food preparation area that comes with restrictions on what they can or cannot do, the pandan waffles do hit the spot for us — something which we could foresee ourselves having with a hot White on the side whilst catching up with a friend on a weekend afternoon. Crescent Waffle & Sandwich Shop just somehow gives a breath of fresh air in the building; perhaps being that modern addition to the F&B mix of Fortune Centre that we never knew it needed — a spot that would intrigue avid cafe-hoppers with its warm and welcoming interior especially!
