To me, it is way pricier that the other prawn noodle places and the broth is not as umami or intense as I would have hoped for. Perhaps I came with too high of an expectation? We got both the Prawn Noodles (Regular, $8) and Pork Rib Pork Noodle (Regular, $8) to share, with the former being certified healthier choice by the Health Promotion Board, Singapore. Between both the dry and soup version, I will go for the dry version as the noodles are cooked till al dente and it is tossed in a pork lard oil mixture which gives it the additional flavour boost.

We got a dry and a soup version. Reached about 1130am and only got served at 12pm thereabout. Would encourage to come earlier cos we were not able to dabao more packets due to limited supply. Many people were also turned away cos they were sold out. Unless you're a friend of the owners of course, he will try to 'squeeze' some bowls out for you.

The noodle and soup serving were small. But I've heard that if you come on a weekday morning they are a lot more generous. I have yet to try that yet. The soup in the soup version is a lot more watered down. I really enjoyed the thick broth on it's on. First taste it has a really strong shallots (I think?) Taste to me. It was gao but still light in a sense like it's not greasy or thick. Yummy, only a pity that it's a very very small bowl.

$8 for a bowl each is slightly on the pricier side for sure but definitely I think the scarcity makes me want to pay for it. Will definitely return!

I’m almost certain that the first post I ever did see about Da (big in Mandarin) Dong Prawn Noodles (大東蝦面) was from @veronicaphua, and then my feed just went absolutely wild with nothing but Da Dong swinging around. I know from personal experience that having a Big Dong is absolutely awesome, but I simply couldn’t understand why everyone was losing their minds over Da Dong’s, well, 大东.⠀

I have failed in my quest to survey Da Dong twice before, so I made sure I was up bright and early to get the full Da Dong experience. I got a bowl of their standard pork rib prawn noodles ($8), and made sure to order thin vermicelli so as to avoid interfering with the legendary broth. Well, that was apparently a really good idea, as the broth turned out to be milder than most other prawn broths.⠀

It’s a lot less forward on the briny sapidity that only seafood can deliver, instead relegating the seafood umami to the copilot’s chair. The captain here is definitely the pork bones that have been painstakingly boiled down into the stock, which results in a lighter and cleaner, yet richer & fattier broth. You are far less likely to get overwhelmed with Big Dong than any of its contemporaries, but the deeply savoury broth is no less satisfying as it slides into your guts.⠀

As you can see, the $8 bowl is pretty miserly especially compared to any other famous competitor out there. Sure, the prawns were fresh & the pork ribs were terrifically tender, but nobody other than people with small appetites are gonna be full for long on this. Still, I’m glad to have enjoyed this famous prawn star, and now I completely understand why so many people are lusting for Big Dong.⠀

Journey to the East yesterday means we could stop by Da Dong for breakfast! Haven’t had their prawn noodles in a long time and that first sip of broth was just ultra shiok. Don’t expect the intense prawn-y sort of base here, but you’ll get one that’s very well-balanced with a garlicky crustacean sweetness. Sadly no refills, so we always make sure we savour every drop 😂 Damn good!

Finally tried Da Dong prawn noodles 🦐 which has been raved by many foodies like @veronicaphua 😂 I got the dry version as you get the best of both worlds - chilli mix🌶 and the rich pork prawn broth 🐷❤️ overall, I would say the broth is definitely with the hype 👍 💯 the soup is packed with unami rich thick aroma of the prawn base yet still relatively clear and not overly starchy🤤 when paired with the chilli tossed noodles - the spice goes well with the smooth thickly flavored broth - Abit like eating tsukemen🍜 ! I do have to say the price is bit steep for the quantity ( no soup refill sad🥺) but worth a visit and well deserved praises for the soup✌️

Late to the game but finally tried the infamous Da Dong Prawn Noodles.

Is it worth the hype? Definitely so. My yellow noodles were toothsome, coated with a luscious chili paste and topped with delicious lard.

The broth, though not refillable, was special. It tastes rich without being intense and overwhelming, unlike other places.

I had the prawn and pork rib noodles (S$5/8/10). The pork ribs easily fall off the bone, and the prawns were already peeled but not compromised in flavour. Shiok!
