If you can stomach something rich and gelatinous, this will be an indulgent treat. Australian oxtail is marinated and braised in aromatic herbs and spices, then grilled over charcoal. Lightly charred and crispy on the outside, each bite was full of smokiness, with bittersweet flavours. Thankfully, when it felt really rich, there was pickled chilli that cuts through the fat.

Well sautéed and not greasy .

A little different from our usual singapore style that is drenched soaked in oil .

There were however too many stalks and it made the dish somewhat unpleasant .

Was expecting more attention to details by dancing fish ...’

I finally managed to get a try of this highly acclaimed Balinese restaurant .

Perhaps I have read quite some many good reviews - my expectations were raised too high .

I was disappointed that the Tahu telor did not arrive piping hot and that the tofu was not quite stiff - it almost feels as though this Tahu telor was prepared way too early .

I was expecting much more from dancing fish .

If u are at a loss what to order, just stick to the grilled squid, sambal eggplant and yellow rice. Guaranteed to induce glorious food coma thereafter. The satay also deserves special mention for its smoky charred crust. Ironically, the deep fried signature fish dish failed to excite.

This restaurant at the 4th floor of Tangs serves very good Malay-Indo food, and this is recognized as their main restaurant in KL received multiple awards. Definitely, order the dancing fish here, as well as the satay and the buntut belado enak (oxtail, said to be Dr Mahathir's favorite dish here). They are not strong in desserts, but I happen to like this mushy sweet banana split served with ice cream. Simple satisfaction.

Cumi-Cumi Bakar ($15) is the grilled squid with sweet marinade. It is so fresh and chewy! As you can see, I was way too excited to dig in, hehe.

For vegetables, we took the waitress’ suggestion and ordered the Gulai Pucuk Paku ($13). On the pricey side for veg, but it’s because this jungle fern can’t be found in Singapore. The yellow curry was light and fragrant, which went so well with the free flow rice.

Last but not least, we had the quarter Ayam bbq chicken ($11). Soft and tender, and marinated so well. With their Chili, it’s even better ;)

p.s. I also love the batik decorations on the walls and tables. They stuck to traditional Indonesian music (kudos for this detail) was soft, which added to the classy touch. I will definitely be back for more!
