Saga Gyu Don

$48.00 Β· 23 Reviews

Glad that this dish is still on the set menu at @Tamashii_SG even after its major revamp! The restaurant spots a sleeker interior and the lunch sets are probably the most value for money option.

This Saga Wagyu Beef Don with truffles and onsen egg is one of the highlights for us on the 7-course lunch set menu!

Not much time left for Tamashii. They'll be closing end of this month before they reopen with a different concept.

Pictured is a decadent bowl of well-marbled saga beef that came with so much of those beef juices, topped with real truffle shavings. Best enjoyed with mixed together with the onsen egg.
πŸ”Έ
This is available in their ala carte menu, and it's their best seller for the past 5 years. But it's also available in their semi-omakase at $168++ for 8 courses.

Tamashii's semi omakase is still a full meal, it's semi-omakase because some items are left to the chef, while some are fixed. A sashimi course would always be in the omakase, though the seafood may vary. It comes with shoyu foam, so it diffuses the sodium so that it won't be too intense. Check out that thick slab of otoro btw!

The other dishes in this $168++ semi-omakase are:
* Zensai (4 kinds of assorted appetizer)
* Sashimi Moriawase (sashimi served with shoyu foam)
* Kani Uni (king crab tossed with sea urchin)
* Yaki Sakana (grilled seasonal fish)
* Truffle Chawanmushi (steamed egg with shaved truffles)
* Saga Gyu Donburi (Saga beef rice with onsen egg and shaved truffles)
* Owanmono (soup of the day)
* Tenzukuri Dessert (dessert of the day)

One of Chef Patrick's @patr1ck_tan signature is the Truffle Chawanmushi, and for this particular menu, the truffle x-factor is dialed up several notches with the use of freshly shaved truffles.
πŸ”Έ
And the star here isn't just truffles. His chawanmushi is so wobbly, urging me to handle with care as I scooped it up. And as soon as it touched my mouth, it collapsed into liquid stock. Perfect texture.

Flavours were really good but I felt the beef was a tad on the veiny side which kinda let down the dish.

πŸ“: Tamashii Robataya
πŸš‚: Clarke Quay
πŸ’°: $80-100
βš–οΈ: Probably won’t return for a while as there are arguably better rice bowls out there. Service was also suspect.

One of the item you can get from the omakase menu. Tender and flavoursome saga beef served with thinly sliced truffle.

This is an indulgent uni bomb. A5 Saga beef is rolled with uni within, and topped with more uni and caviar. I had this all in one mouth, and it was an uni overload and I'm not complaining hah.
πŸ”Έ
The saga beef was lightly seared to bring out the flavours of the beef, and caviar made this a little more savoury. Definitely worth the $45 for a pair of these, given the amount of uni they serve here with the premium A5 saga gyu.

Tamashii's semi omakase is still a full meal, it's semi-omakase because some items are left to the chef, while some are fixed. This dish, for example, is permanently on this menu.

And I love this so much. Besides the blob of uni on top, the crab is tossed with more uni, so it's crab that's rich with uni-creaminess. What a decadent combination!

Tamashii have also just launched a new menu, and I'll share with you very soon.

Terribly disappointing wagyu beef don at lunch today. Tiny miserable pieces of a very veiny cut (allegedly A3 wagyu). Requested for rare doneness since I don't trust them, and true enough turned out med rare to medium. My friends asked for medium rare and theirs came out well done (= no pink parts at all). I really should just stick to my usual haunts for wagyu donburi and stop hoping to find new spots! Set includes sashimi salad, miso soup and choice of ice cream dessert. But don't order the beef, it was SO BAD. food bloggers are such LIARS πŸ™„πŸ™„πŸ™„
