Caramel & Crackling Roast Pork Combination Donburi

$9.80 Β· 7 Reviews

Everything about this bowl is scrumptious, from two types of fatty pork, to the oozy onsen egg, and right down to the base of tare-seasoned rice.

If I had to pick between the crispy-skinned roast pork and the caramelised char siew, I'd definitely choose the latter, which was falling apart in just the best way possible.

// Bowl of rice topped with crispy pork belly that the chef takes to crackling nirvana with his chopper, right under your nose 😍, caramelized pork belly, onsen egg (+$1), flanked by a nifty mound of yummy hae bee hiam, which you should never refuse and the final flourish of pickled vegetables, to refresh the palate. I cant say it's perfect but for such a lardaecous party in the mouth, I would say it's pretty worth it.

Took me so long to finally do that last weekend - ordered the Caramel and Crackling Roast Pork Combination Donburi (S$9.80) from this tiny, hole-in-a-wall takeaway store at Great World City. The perfect donburi combo, topped up S$1.50 for an onsen egg, paired with some pickled cucumber, and the oddly local-flavour "hae bee hiam" spicy dried shrimp. Really yummy! (although the rice was way too dry) 😝

Add an additional Onsen egg for $1 is a must! It tasted pretty good, except would be better if the food was served hot. $10.8 for this is pretty alright, comfort meat I guess! βœ”οΈπŸ˜‹

It was love at first bite. Gently lifting a slice of the thick slabs of juicy, caramelized barbecued roast pork, we placed it into our mouth. The warm, sweet and sticky notes gravy coated our palate, each bite bursting with flavors of honeyed meat. We wanted more.

Oozing with sweet, meaty juices caramelized from being slow roasted over 72 hours using a mix of French and Chinese techniques (before baking until golden), each piece of char siew is crisp to the bite, its beautifully charred edges adding just the right amount of texture and crunch between its fork-tender interior.
