Signature Kushikatsu

$2.00 Ā· 17 Reviews

Featuring light and crisp Kushikatsu with handmade panko breadcrumbs, there are also other Izakaya-style dishes such as fresh sashimi and sushi rolls.
We really enjouyed the Beef Curry Rice with Assorted Kushikatsu which serves skewered meat and prawns doused in savoury beef curry sauce.
The Pork Belly with Black Garlic Sauce is another of our favourites as the tantalizing garlic sauce is a lipsmacking perfect match with the fatty meat of the pork belly.

Helmed by Chef Ishikawa Kazuma, he conceptualizes tantalizing skewers of meats, seafood and vegetables with each stick coated with an egg batter, covered in panko breadcrumbs and fried to a bright, radiant gold.
The Chicken Neck with Cheese Shiso & Salsa is one of my favourites, the warm cheese and chilled salsa blend perfectly with the chewy chicken neck. The Hokkaido Scallop with uni delicately placed on top of it can be dipped into the dashi foam for more flavour.
Lastly the Assorted Seasonal Kushikatsu Moriawase provides a variety of combination of skewers such as the Sakura Ebi Ball, Beef Asparagus, Lotus Root with Japanese Mustard, Pork with Bamboo Shoot, Green Pea Croquette and Seabream Umeshiso

Already missing this sumiyaki aka Bincho-tan charcoal grilled yakitori dish from @pankosg! Light eaters might find the rich savoury mentaiko a little overpowering, I personally find that a small squeeze from the lemon provided helps a lot to give it a lift of flavour dimension šŸ¤¤ itā€™s too bad I only had one.

Loving this relatively new Japanese Kushikatsu bar concept under the huge umbrella brand of @unlistedc, glad that itā€™s fitting right in at the original hipster spot of Haji Lane/Arab Street. Keep it up.

Located along Haji Lane, itā€™s the first Japanese Kushikatsu Restaurant & Bar in SG.
Its menu features a range of skewered meat, seafood and vegetables originating from Osaka. We enjoyed their light and crisp Kusikatsu fried skewers as well as juicy grills.
Panko also offers sashimi, ramen and Don for those who want more Japanese varieties. But for us, the skewers were just perfect with an ice cold beer or sake.

Their valentineā€™s menu is similar save for negitoro don, and I wish I may and I wish I might...my dear valentine has heard me right! šŸ˜‚ .

I really wanted to like this meal...but it was rather underwhelming. The sashimi was cut into really small cubes, and over-marinated such that it got way too salty after a few bites. The set came with three kushikatsu - chicken sausage, eggplant and zucchini - and a tiny scoop of average-tasting ice cream. I got this using the entertainer app, so I only paid $12nett which really isn't too bad. But I wouldn't pay the full price ($20++) for this. The service here was good though - my tea was refilled promptly, and the staff are friendly and courteous.

It came with a bowl of bara chirashi don with complimentary chawanmushi, soup, pickles, kushikatsu and dessert!! Their bara chirashi don is above average, but I wish I could enjoy the kushikatsu while they're still hot (I left them to eat after I finished my don so they're alr cold...). Overall, it's really a steal considering the value!

I'm so glad we made it to @pankosg on their opening night, with less than 5 minutes to spare for their last orders for food (yeah, we were cutting it close!)
We decided to get a modest assortment of their signature kushikatsu (menu prices are based on per skewer and they range between $2 and $8) plus a plate of karaage ($12) as our bellies were still full from a wine-filled dinner earlier.
After munching on the skewers of panko-ed and deepfried prawns, scallops, pork neck, baby corn and ladyfingers, it was unanimously agreed that the battered coating was very well done. Regardless of whatever it covered, the layer of crunchiness was thin, nicely even all over, and remarkably oil-free.
The double-compartment saucers that had arrived once we were seated, held a ponzu dip, a lemon wedge, Japanese salt and a housemade sauce for us to enjoy our kushikatsu with.
We had hot tea with our food on this first visit which was pleasant but I am pretty sure alcohol would prove a more fun pairing.
If you work close to Haji Lane, you might be like to know they offer lunch sets priced between $16 and $20 that include choices beyond deepfried items such as sashimi, chirashi, oyako don and cold soba. There's also an $88 Panko course meal as well.
(All prices above are before tax).
